Thompson, Hiller, and Sam Too Much Leading Miami to Play In Win

First up was Miami vs New York in a play in game. Fun storyline from a local perspective was former Bolingbrook teammates Davion Thompson and Brady Pettigrew going head to head. Thompson and my personal MVP of the camp Colton Hiller went off as the backcourt got whatever they wanted. Thompson was crafty off the bounce for tough layups, soft touch finishes, and difficult mid-range jumpers. Hiller did everything as he did all week. Plus shooter, explosive athlete, crisp passer, and dominant perimeter defender. They got help inside from Precious Sam as the Arizona product is an intimidating force inside with his shot blocking, hard fouls, and relentless motor. Sealed on the block and got deep post position for dunks.

On the other side it was another strong outing to end a massive day for Brady Pettigrew. The Bolingbrook guard was poised getting out in transition making plays with his body control. Reverse layups and hit a tough corner three. Best day of his young career we have seen him. Anthony Williams II is among the premier 2028s in the nation with his instincts on the perimeter both offensively and defensively. Wins on straight line takes, passes well for a wing, and is a plus defender. Notre Dame Sherman Oaks (CA) Josiah Nance is a thick bodied power wing that has a nice touch on his southpaw jumper along with toughness going downhill.

Length and Athleticism Up Front Shines for Cleveland to Advance in Quarterfinals

Baba Oladotun was just too much in this one as the skilled and lengthy forward displayed his shot making from all over the floor. He hit tough pull ups to close out the victory. Super long strides and slick handles. Can pass a little on the move as well. Hazelwood East (MO) big man Tyran Frazier has a really bright future. Plus athlete with a wiry frame at 6'10” that brings athleticism to the table. Fouled on several mobile post moves and can really defend in space. Tyrone Jamison is a point guard that can knock down shots with balance especially in the mid-range and from the corner for threes. Shifty ball handler that gets to his spots. Pike (IN) 7'0” center Isaiah Hill came up clutch for this team. He turned back shot after shot on the back end along with cleaning up on the glass.

Best we saw Cardinal Ritter (MO) 2027 wing Malachi Jordan play all week. Couple of powerful flushes with a two handed reverse and a steal for a windmill along with a tip slam. Jalen White of Bella Vista Prep is intriguing as a 6'5” small forward with pogo stick athleticism and range on his shot.

Denver Rolls into Finals with Best Roster in Camp

Next up we saw Denver score a competitive W against Chicago to move to the championship game. Webster Groves (MO) combo guard Scottie Adkinson was in his bag with his acrobatic layups, shake off the bounce, and pin point passing which has really grown over the last year. Madison Ridgeland Academy (MS) 2028 center Erick Dampier had his best game of the camp. The top 5 prospect in the rising sophomore class has a tremendous frame. Right handed hook shot, rim runs in transition, and blocked multiple shots on the same possession. Was a force down low. So was Ahmad Hudson. The Ruston (LA) 6'5” forward is a dual sport star being the top tight end in the country, but he showed on the big stage he can hoop too. Powerful dunks, pull up jumpers, and is an elite rebounder. More on him in a moment. Seven Lakes (TX) 2027 6'4” wing Isaiah Santos is a strong bodied guard that has a well rounded skill set. He can take a bump and score at the cup, passes well on the move, and makes winning plays.

Nice outing from Vashon (MO) 2027 combo guard Jimmy McKinney Jr. Played both on and off the ball this week while getting to his go to 15-18 foot jumper. Can stretch it out three on occasion and has a good basketball IQ.

Midwest Feel in Finals with Denver Winning Championship

The championship game was between camp squads Denver and Miami, but it had a lot of Midwest flavor to it. Webster Groves (MO) high school teammates Scottie Adkinson and Miles Simpson were on opposite sides. As were the former #1 and #2 players in the Prep Hoops Illinois rankings in 2027 Davion Thompson (Link) and Devin Cleveland (La Lumiere) before leaving for out of state powers. The coaches on both squads hail from Missouri. Denver took home the victory by a final of 42-35. While they got contributions across the board it was dual sport star Ahmad Hudson who stole the show. He flushed down explosive dunks one after another having all his fellow campers and fans go wild. Like how Cleveland played with his improved feel finding several guys on the move and his big men.

On the other side Thompson had another impressive outing with his big time three point shooting and outstanding mid-range game. From a national perspective in 2028 you can have whoever you want and I will take Colton Hiller. The PSA Cardinals wing was the best player throughout the week. Skilled shooting guard with positional size, athleticism, and skill. Made some plays that had NBA scouts and former pros in awe. The perimeter shot was flowing one after another as he made difficult threes and was instinctual on the defensive end.
