NHR State: Top Floor Generals

The NHR State Tournament was full of talented players! I was stationed at Armstrong High School all weekend. Check out which prospects were able to control the game for their team.    Summer is a combo guard who excels at attacking the paint. His dribble drives come one after another, and this constant aggression puts pressure on the defense. Something that makes Summer an especially difficult cover is his ability to finish through contact and his willingness to kick it to an open teammate. The 2028 prospect can score from all levels, play downhill, and create his own shot as well as his teammates'.     One of the best playmakers I saw over the weekend was [player_tooltip player_id='2382071' first='Jonathan' last='Ecker']. He's a taller point guard, so he can see, pass, and score easily over smaller defenders. He likes to push in transition and makes good use of the outlet pass. Ecker is capable of beating you off the dribble and scoring on his own, adding a nice balance to his offensive flow.     Austin can completely dominate every aspect of the game, and he makes it look easy while doing it. The 6'4” combo guard has a good frame, which creates matchup difficulties for opponents. Austin can score whenever he wants, but what really stands out is his willingness to get his teammates involved. He's constantly searching for the open man. Austin makes the easy and correct play time and time again, this is a quality that will help him succeed at every level.     Quick passes, deliberate movements, and a high IQ are just a few things that make Koch such a dangerous playmaker. The 2028 point guard is very efficient when he has the basketball. No wasted dribbles and always moving with a purpose. It seems Koch knows where his teammates will be before they do, and this chemistry with his squad elevates the whole team. Koch is a sharpshooter with a tight handle, making him an especially tough cover.     Loehlein plays with a ton of confidence and seems to be able to speed the game up or slow it down as he chooses. Loehlein is a talented scorer who can get buckets in a variety of ways. This frees up all of his playmaking as the defense has to respect him as a scoring threat. As lead guard for his team, he comfortably organizes the offense. Loehlein plays with good poise and isn't sped up easily, he's a well-rounded offensive threat.     Schoenfelder does a great job of getting downhill and attacking in transition. He's a crafty finisher around the rim and converts at a high rate. This opens up plenty of passing lanes for him. The point guard seems to have eyes on the back of his head and can thread needles that many others can't. He has great vision and isn't afraid to be creative as a playmaker. Schoenfelder makes good decisions and is comfortable running an offense.     I really like the craftiness the Villalobos plays with. The combo guard plays at his own speed and has excellent body control as he maneuvers up the court. Villalobos can control the game as both a scorer and facilitator. This combination allows him to pick defenses apart from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Villalobos also has great footwork and ball control.     Ash is a super shifty point guard with a quick first step. He gets into the paint consistently, and once there, he can score on his own through a series of fancy lay-ups or kick it out to the open man. As one of the lead guards for his team, he does a good job of playing with pace and finding his teammates' open shots. Ash takes care of the basketball and always makes the smart pass, making the game easier for his squad.
