Indiana Futures Game: Kyler's Takeaways

The third annual Indiana Futures Game took place on Monday evening at fishersHigh School and it was a competitive, fun game. A newer addition to the Indiana All-Star series, the Futures Game featured 24 of the best freshmen and sophomores in the state. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage from the game and got to take it all in. Here are my takeaways.   (Note: Brandon Ramsey will be releasing the top performers. These are just takeaways from players that stood out to me in some way.)    <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>2 pts, 5 rebs</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>The stats may not jump out for Ott-Large but for me, it was his energy off the bench tonight. He earned his ay here tonight by being one of the more productive 2027s in the state. Attacked the lane pretty well, defended, and was just a big spark at times. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>24 pts, 9 rbs, 3 stills</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>This was the very first time I got to see the 2028 Blackford forward and he quickly became my favorite player to watch. Came away as the MVP of the boys futures game. Arguably the most athletic prospect in the gym, he made plays all over the floor. Very active in the lane and went 4-6 from deep. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>13 pts, 10 rebs</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>There may have not been a player that played as hard as what [player_tooltip player_id='2140416' first='Mack' last='Welker'] did on Monday night. He was active on the glass which got him 10 rebounds on the night. He scored through contact very well and was just super aggressive. Welker is starting to take the state by notice. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>15 pts, 8 asts, 4 rbs</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>I mean, what more can you say about the point guard from Fishers because he basically puts on a show every time he steps on the floor. Started off the game hit three after three and ended up going 5-10 from deep. Made some flash passes and was getting handsy on the defensive end. He is proving he could be a high major player. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>8 pts, 9 asts, 9 rbs</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>It is hard not to be a standout player when you almost put up a triple-double. What I loved about Hunter on Monday night was his hustle all over the floor, on both ends. He extended offensive possessions well and was aggressive at the basket, scoring through contact. A do-it-all player. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>12 pts, 5 rbs</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>The prospect out of Liberty Christian impressed on Monday night with his elite speed. Martin is a super dynamic guard that plays on and off the ball at a pretty solid level. He made great cuts off the ball with his quick first step, blowing past the defense. </li> </ul>     <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>12 pts, 7 rbs, 4 asts</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Yes, this may be a glorified exhibition game, but this was one of the best performances I have seen out of [player_tooltip player_id='2140349' first='Derrick' last='Cross Jr'] and I have seen a lot of great performances by the 2027 prospect. At the futures game, it was his three-point shooting that was awesome to watch with him going 4-7 from deep. Such a long guard for his position and can be a mismatch problem at times. </li> </ul>
