There is no better event on the calendar from an evaluation or recruiting standpoint than the annual IBCA/IHSAA Charlie Hughes Showcase. This weekend, which is a live evaluation period for Division I college coaches, most of the best teams in the state of Indiana will descend on Carmel and Westfield High Schools for an absolutely excellent three days of basketball. Prep Hoops Indiana has boots on the ground coverage from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer all weekend long. Friday night has wrapped up and with that, here are my 5 standouts from the few teams I watched today.

I am going to get this out of the way right off the bat: This is the best I have ever seen [player_tooltip player_id='1561513' first='Noah' last='Smith'] play. I had a chance to catch [player_tooltip player_id='1561513' first='Noah' last='Smith'] twice on Friday and both games, he not only impressed me but many other people that got a chance to watch him. Thursday 6'8 forward was super active on the offensive end of the floor showing off an ability to hit the three-pointer while also using his size to score around the rim very easily. There were some 2026 prospects that really needed to make a statement this weekend, and [player_tooltip player_id='1561513' first='Noah' last='Smith'] did just that on Friday.

There may not be a bigger stock-riser in the 2026 class than 2026 silver creek forward [player_tooltip player_id='2476482' first='Dane' last='Caldwell'], who had a lot of eyes on him on Friday. For starters, Caldwell has such a good mixture of size and athleticism that allows him to do so much on the floor. What really stood out to me on Friday was the tough buckets he had in the paint using just the smallest angles to get a bucket to fall. The big question is what level of D1 Caldwell will end up being. Based off what I saw on Friday, the sky is the limit for him.

There are few guards in the instate 2026 class that bring as much production on the floor than what [player_tooltip player_id='1560965' first='Treigh' last='Schelsky'] does. When watching Schelsky, he is just a steady force for Parke Heritage and the Wolves really go as he goes. The 6'0 guard did a really good job of dictating the pace of play working well off a screens, facilitating in the lane, showing his jumper off from time to time. He will not wow with flash like some guards, but almost everything he does on the floor is with purpose and is effective.

When its comes to just straight electricity in the gym on Friday, the 6'2 guard out of Crown Point was easily the most electric player I saw on the day. Darrell will step into the role as the main guy in the backcourt for the Bulldogs this season and based off what was seen by him on Friday, he is more than ready for that role. Thought he was especially good making plays in transition doing a good job of disrupting the passing lanes and using his speed to get down the floor and finish. Darrell is a player that can consistently make plays both on and off the ball with playmaking ability at a high level. He is an impact type of player.

If you want to talk about a guard that just really has the complete package and all the upside in the world, you may be referring to Silver Creek guard [player_tooltip player_id='2140328' first='Brandon' last='Hunter']. Not only does Hunter make all the important hustle plays in order for a team to have success, he is also a very capable scorer in all areas of the floor. The game I was able to watch of Silver Creek, there were a few times where Hunter gave the Dragons momentum by either extending a play with his rebounding and hustle or knocking down smooth threes. Based off what was seen by many in attendance at Carmel, Hunter was one of the 2027 prospects that brought the most attention in a very positive way.
