The 2025 Big Shots Myrtle Beach Jam began on Saturday at the John T. Rhodes Myrtle Beach Sports Center. This was my first-ever trip to the MB Sports Center and my first Big Shots event this Summer, setting the table for the first day of action. Check out these five Guards who most stood out at Day One of the Big Shots Myrtle Beach Jam:

First up on my list of top Guards from the Myrtle Beach Jam is [player_tooltip player_id='2426188' first='Marcus' last='Johnson']. He had caught my eye in the past, but this was my first check-in with him this Summer with his new squad. Johnson may be undersized, but he is extremely strong and uses his body well to create space. He also doesn't get sped up, uses his handle to penetrate defenses, and can knock down jumpers from the mid-range. Marcus had several tough finishes through contact and nice dribble moves in an 8-point, 4-assist, and 2-steal performance.

Tyzai is the first of two Guards from Team USC Premier, who went on to win the 16U Slam Championship this weekend. Smith was named Title Game MVP with 17 points in the final, but I caught up with his team in their tournament opener vs Strong Center. Tyzai knocked down a pair of first-half threes in the game, opening up driving lanes for himself and his teammates as the game went on. Smith displayed elite quickness both in the half-court and transition, frequently beating defenders off the dribble. He finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in Game One.

[player_tooltip player_id='2147147' first='Luis' last='Echevarria'] had a great tournament, going on to win Tournament MVP. He had several impressive showings throughout the weekend, but the one that stood out to me was a double-digit scoring game in the first round. Luis is a strong and athletic Guard, capable of using either attribute to get to his spots on the offensive end. He has a polished mid-range game and is very comfortable pulling up over defenders. Echevarria also showed that he can stretch the floor to the perimeter and be a handful in transition.

Cobaris was a bright spot for [program_tooltip program_id='2231960' first='Big' last='Shots SC'] Select in the matchup with Private Snipaz. He was playing up an age group as well but didn't look outmatched from a skill perspective. Although he is on the smaller side, Daevon sees the floor extremely well and can push the ball through tight windows to penetrate a defense. Cobaris also handles the ball well under pressure and rarely turns the ball over. He is a good perimeter shooter and knocked down a pair of threes when spotting up on the ball, finishing with 8 points and 4 assists in the loss.

Rounding out my list of Guards from the Big Shots Myrtle Beach Jam is Ethan Morris. He is probably at his best playing off the ball on the wings, but his team needs him to have the ball in his hands often, as he was their best handler and creator. When he could spot-up, Ethan showed an impressive stroke with three made threes. Morris was also a difference-maker on the defensive end with a block and a steal.
