Echevarria played a big role in getting the crowd into the game early, as well as turning the one-point first-quarter lead into an 11-point halftime lead. There aren’t many guards in the state who can elevate like Luis, and he is prone to putting on a show at the rim when he gets out in transition. He was one of five War Eagles who connected on a three, and his came off an offensive rebound where the defense had collapsed on the interior. Echevarria made a few impressive passes as well, racking up 9 points and 4 assists in the win.

Luis is a new face to Gray Collegiate Academy and one who comes to the War Eagles in great form. Echevarria went for 9 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals in a matchup with Covent Day (NC) on Friday. Luis was a key figure on both ends of the floor, using his physical hands and quick feet to cause chaos for opponents on the defensive end and his bounce and shot-making to put the ball in the basket on the offensive end. Echevarria will fit in nicely to this GCA squad as he can play either position in the backcourt and doesn’t always need the ball to be a positive.

had a great tournament, going on to win Tournament MVP. He had several impressive showings throughout the weekend, but the one that stood out to me was a double-digit scoring game in the first round. Luis is a strong and athletic Guard, capable of using either attribute to get to his spots on the offensive end. He has a polished mid-range game and is very comfortable pulling up over defenders. Echevarria also showed that he can stretch the floor to the perimeter and be a handful in transition.

Lu was a bright spot for Carolina Rebels in a matchup with Upward Stars Columbia on Saturday Morning. He was most effective in transition, either by grabbing defensive boards or forcing turnovers. He has both a good handle and foot speed in the open floor which allows him to be successful in getting to the rim quickly. He can also be successful in the halfcourt offense because of the scoring along with his passing. Echevarria balances both well when he has the ball in his hands. He finished with 9 Points, 9 Rebounds, and 5 Assists in the game.

Echevarria was another gamechanger for Team 2 given his ability to turn things up and bring energy on the defensive end and quickly turn into offense on the other end. He used his length and quickness in a variety of ways to complement his teammates very well. He was probably the most vocal prospect for his squad on both ends of the floor, constantly communicating and looking to get his teammates involved in plays. He’ll be a fun prospect to track in SC’s 2027 class at Cardinal Newman High.
