The Stage: Mike’s Sunday Standouts

The Stage brought the Prep Hoops Circuit to Indiana and this gave teams an early season opportunity to gain some chemistry and play in front of our scouts. In this article we'll break down the standouts I saw on Sunday at the event.    In what was a tight back and forth contest, Robertson made shots from the outside all game and led his team to a win on Sunday morning. Late in the game, Robertson knocked down a near NBA range 3-pointer and also had an and-1 floater to help put some separation between the sides. A confident shooter, when Robertson is left open with his feet set it's always going up. I also thought Robertson made himself available off the ball and caught the basketball ready to shoot.     A new name for myself as this was the first time I got to see Uta play. A bigger bodied presence in the paint, Uta scored at the rim consistently by using power dribbles and going over his left shoulder on layups. Uta also ran the floor and got behind the defense a couple times for wide open transition layups. With his size, offensive skill and rebounding, I could see Uta carving out a role for GlenOak this winter.     Playing up two age groups this weekend, Kimble was the lone rising freshman I saw compete this weekend. Kimble impacted the game in a variety of ways with a couple scoop layups at the rim, a few spot-up 3-pointers and some impact defensive plays. Very encouraging to see a prospect making an impact against older competition and he seems like a name I'll be following along over the next few years.     When Carson got either a defensive rebound or a steal he was looking to push the pace and get from point a to point b in a hurry off the dribble. As the fastest athlete on the court, Carson was able to push the pace and get to the rim. I liked that Carson made the simple read if help defense came his way and also showed the ability to finish with either hand at the rim.     Another standout from [program_tooltip program_id='2345418' first='Ky' last='Future Elite'], Oram passed the ball at an extremely high level on Sunday morning. Playing on balance and finding the open man on time and on target, Oram is the type of player that teammates should love playing with. As a scored, Oram knocked down shots with his feet set and curled off screens to get a jumpstart on attacking the rim.     A dominant 4-0 weekend for Nova Village 16 U and Stokes was providing value as a ball handler, floor spacer and tough on ball defender. When you combine those three qualities as a point guard, you will help your team win. Stokes pushed the pace, knocked down shots off the catch and played hard defensively. I enjoy when players keep the game simple while still leaving their mark on the game and that's what Stokes did this weekend when I saw him.
