Regional Final Recaps: Northern Chicago Area Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Hoops Illinois checked out a couple 4A basketball Regional Finals in the Northern Chicago Area. The following two games included Waukegan (23-7) vs Libertyville (16-14) and Lane Tech (20-11) vs New Trier (21-12). Waukegan and Lane Tech moved on with victories and will continue play this upcoming week in their Sectional Semi-Finals. Had multiple nice takes to the rim on the dribble in traffic. Liked to push ahead in the break when given the opportunity. Gained good positioning on the block using body to clear space. Solid verticality on the defensive end for a few blocks in this game. Can run the floor consistently. Kept the ball high on an offensive rebound for a put back. Had a multitude of offensive moves. Is able to spin in traffic, pump fake to make defender rise, and finish with a baby hook. Made a hard fade-a-way jump shot from 12 feet on 0 gap pressure look simple. Missed a 3 then gathered his own rebound for a baseline finish in traffic. Found success on a turn-a-round baby hook on defender in the paint. Had a hard post up and rip through over 2 defenders. Was well conditioned in this game to continue to get his hands on a lot of passes defensively. Able to guard multiple sizes. Had a couple nice finishes around the rim against longer bigs. Made a solid jab step going vertical to the rim for an 8 foot pull up jump shot. Shot looks smooth coming off. Had a nice flash to the block with a catch and pump fake to finish. Had another flash in the paint and missed 1st attempt but regathered for an O board and made tip-in off miss. Comfortable in his dribble if needs to handle it. Will shoot the trey and looks poised doing it. Hustled in multiple aspects of the game and saved a couple loose balls from OOB. Always seemed to be moving even without the ball coming off screens or cutting where there was space. Able to change speeds from slow to quick so he can get a step on the defender. Went through defenders body and consumed contact on finishes. Had a nice catch and shoot 3 off a miss in the break transition phase. Can be comfortable in the 1 or 2 spot at the next level.
