It took more than four quarters for DePaul Prep to take home the 3A championship Saturday evening. Their third championship in as many years.

It didn't even take one overtime. That's how intense it was.

The final outcome of this game was honestly a toss-up. But what I most certainly could've predicted was a hard-fought defensive game. That was the case for the first four minutes, as neither team could find the bottom of the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='2538949' first='KJ' last='Morris'] scored the first six points for Brother Rice. Including a tough and-one against [player_tooltip player_id='1435692' first='Rykan' last='Woo'] for his second foul. But even with Woo on the bench, DePaul had answers. [player_tooltip player_id='1385297' first='Jonas' last='Johnson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2505371' first='Gus' last='Donohue'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1385311' first='Robert' last='Walls'] each hit three's in the opening 12 minutes. Eventually, Brother Rice held a 15-14 lead at half which included six lead changes.

In the second half, it was the [player_tooltip player_id='1545120' first='Marcos' last='Gonzales'] show. He made several key plays on both ends of the ball. Fighting hard with a very tough and-one late in the third. Eventually giving the crusaders a 5-pt lead after 3. A finger-roll layup pushed it to the largest lead for either team at 9 pts in the final 5 minutes.

But DePaul never quit. [player_tooltip player_id='1545133' first='Makai' last='Kvamme'] finished a smooth spin-move layup followed by a steal and score on the immediate possession. Even when Rice tried to break away, Kvamme had an answer. Ultimately, [player_tooltip player_id='1435692' first='Rykan' last='Woo'] hit three crucial free throws to tie the game before OT.

OT was intense, only 3 points for each team in the first OT. When the second OT came around, [player_tooltip player_id='1545133' first='Makai' last='Kvamme'] clutched up followed by and and-one dunk by [player_tooltip player_id='1845360' first='Rashaun' last='Porter'].
