Sierra Vista (coached by Joe Bedowitz) and Spanish Springs (coached by Kyle Penney) faced off on Saturday night for the 4A State Title.

It was a very close game in the first half. Sierra Vista was getting to the free throw line and making 3-pointers, but Spanish Springs countered with interior scoring and a few 3-pointers for their own.

At halftime it was 33-32 Sierra Vista.

Then in the second half, Sierra Vista built a lead continuing to hit shots from the perimeter and they also had some inside baskets from [player_tooltip player_id='2351324' first='Darius' last='Ruffin'], [player_tooltip player_id='1253131' first='Colton' last='Knoll'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1266705' first='Jevon' last='Yapi'].

Spanish Springs fell a bit out of sync on offense, and credit is also due to Sierra Vista's defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1253131' first='Colton' last='Knoll'], [player_tooltip player_id='1266705' first='Jevon' last='Yapi'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2145751' first='Noah' last='Brosier'] were hounding opponents.

Brosier also threw down 3 dunks over the course of the game that had the crowd and bench out of their seats.

Once it got to the 4th quarter, Sierra Vista's offense kept scoring and Spanish Springs was unable to catch up.

The final score was 79-65.

Spanish Springs finished their season with a 24-5 record. [player_tooltip player_id='2806789' first='Brady' last='Hummel'] also chipped in 9 Points for them, and Tanner Bowers chipped in 10 Points.

Sierra Vista has now won the 4A State Title the last two years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1267555' first='EJ' last='Dacuma'] was in attack mode from the very beginning of the game. He was able to draw a few fouls while he was shooting, and hit 5 free throws in the first quarter. Unfortunately on one of his shots, he turned his ankle as he came down. Which forced him to exit the game to get with trainers. Then , he made his way back on to the court and continued to play. Despite being at less than 100% he still found a way to get open and connected on three triples and a couple of free throws. It was an impressive championship effort.

[player_tooltip player_id='1266705' first='Jevon' last='Yapi'] put on a show on Saturday night. He was consistently creating shots for both his teammates and himself. The Spanish Spring guards had difficulty reading his next move, which allowed him to drive all the way to the rim on a few occasions. His best assist was when he dished the ball to [player_tooltip player_id='2145751' first='Noah' last='Brosier'] for an alley-oop dunk. Yapi had a fantastic game on defense as well, and managed to get 7 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2351324' first='Darius' last='Ruffin'] played with tenacity on both ends of the court in the state title game. On offense, he used his athleticism and reaction time to gather offensive rebounds. Ruffin was also able to right back up a few times, and scored a decent amount of second chance points for the Mountain Lions. He also did pretty well on defense against the Cougars forwards and disrupted some of their shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1253131' first='Colton' last='Knoll'] was making hustle plays for Sierra Vista as he often does. He battled for rebounds and loose balls all game long. He also chipped on 12 points on offense by scoring in the paint and getting to the free throw line. It was a good final high school game from the senior.

[player_tooltip player_id='2292277' first='Travis' last='Lee'] was shooting the lights out in the 4A final. Early on, his teammates found him for some open looks and he confidently splashed in a couple of 3's. From there Sierra Vista didn't make it very easy for him to get the ball, But he still managed to get free and hit a few more triples. My only qualm is that he possibly should have shot the ball more due to how locked in he appeared to be.

I was a big fan of the way Hensley dove on the ground for loose balls and how he went hard for rebounds. In addition to his scrappy play, he gained good position in the paint on offense a few times. Which led to him knocking down some close range shots and lay-ups.
