Quick 2-Way Guards

Check out some key two-way guards who have made big impacts defending the ball and running the show this season. These guys possess all the quickness and instincts to make plays on both ends.    Has a high IQ on both ends and he rarely turns the rock over. Can make all the basic passes at a high level, understands how to properly enter the ball to the post, uses pivots and his body to create space after pick-ups to find teammates, and puts good pace and accuracy on his swings, skips, and kickouts. He feels the extra defender really well, especially when they blitz him on screens, and can quickly release the ball to the open man. Understands where mismatches are, how to get the ball there, and creates a lot of open lanes for teammates to cut and crash the boards when he penetrates.     Missed some significant time this year but came back strong showing his high-level instincts on both ends. He's a quick point guard who's smart with the ball, can play fast in transition or prod and manipulate defenses in the half to get teammates going. Very high IQ defender both on and off the ball. Hits quick rotations on defense, racks up deflections and steals, and has excellent anticipation to help cut off kickouts on drives.     Mentink made the midseason move to Mount Si, going from one 4A power to another and has fit right in with their gameplan as a pacey guard who can make plays on both ends. He made several key plays in their recent win over Lake Washington, hitting some outside shots, recognizing space, and using his quickness to slip by his man to the rim, and getting his hands in on some ballhandlers away from the basket, creating fast break chances.     Started their game out against Lake Washington by applying defensive pressure on the perimeter and was looking to attack gaps on the other end. Showed great burst and strength to get to the rim and good physicality to get shots up, going into defenders at the hoop and creating space. Made several nice drives baseline and was patient to let passing lanes open up. Great on both ends of the floor all night.     Smith is a guard who is constantly on the attack. He's a high-motor point guard who keeps the pace and activity up on both ends, always looking to push in transition, attack gaps in the half-court, and is a playmaker defensively with some high-level athleticism. He and [player_tooltip player_id='1863256' first='Nick' last='Norrah'] have combined to be one of the most dynamic late-season guard tandems and have Bellevue playing in the District 2 title game this Saturday against Rainier Beach.
