It is now time for playoffs to start and this can be described as the most entertaining part of the high school basketball season. Several teams have made their cases known and put in top performances during round one and their last games of the year but let us not what forget what a great season it was in the Greater Houston area for varsity basketball. Time to examine some prospects to keep an eye on during the offseason, going into AAU basketball and pertaining to recruitment.

[player_tooltip player_id='2476398' first='Dillan' last='Dodson'] is one of the fastest and most dynamic players on this BMT West Brook team. He can change his speed in an instant and immediately up the pace to benefit his team on the offensive side of the ball. Dodson is a good playmaker and has great vision, seeing the floor and making on the dime passes for his teammates to score open buckets. Dillan is an efficient three-point shooter and knows how to pick his spots carefully for jumpshots. I have been impressed with him since last year, but he really turned it up the second half of this regular season. He will continue his momentum play into the playoffs as the Bruins keep riding this hot streak of wins. When he puts in a strong performance, we should fully expect Dillan to gain some collegiate offers by end of the season.

Gelo Reyes is a great scorer for the Cy Park Tigers and can create for himself well off the dribble. I was able to watch him during the last week of the season when he played against Cy Lakes and he was getting everything to go down, scoring the basketball. He showcased himself as a three-level scorer and his defensive energy was infectious for the rest of the team as he uses his length to play passing lanes, as well as accelerating to obtain steals and score on fastbreaks ahead of the opposition. Reyes also knows how to move off the ball and will never be caught standing still during a possession. He is either setting an off-ball screen or cutting backdoor to the basket. I can confidently say that we should be able to find Angelo playing basketball at the next level beginning in the fall.

Bryce had a great second half this year as an underrated two-way player for the Falcons. The 2026 combo guard found ways to score the basketball off the pick and roll as well as timely cuts to the rim and was effective on transition opportunities. His perimeter defense is good as he displays great fundamentals, knowing how to stay in front of his matchup and get key steals. Bryce is definitely on my list of more "under the radar" 2026 prospects available in Houston. Look for his stock to rise coming up on next year and over the summer!

Not enough can be said about the vocal and defensive leader of the Cy Creek Cougars. Their season came to a disappointing end in the first round of playoffs, but Collins has established himself as a matchup nightmare on that side of the ball. Despite being undersized, he knows how to be aggressive and give ballhandlers headaches with physical defense on the perimeter. His ability to see the floor on offense is also very effective as he has proven himself as a true point guard, which is rare these days in the game of basketball. Look for Tywan to help take over leadership of the team next year with the departure of some key seniors.
