Then I headed to Chandler to watch the Junior Varsity Game versus Basha.

Here were the standouts

Phhoenix Prep OPEN won 72 -35 with an older team mixed in with some young talent versus primarily a youth team of 8th graders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2766915' first='Hudson' last='Novak'] Phhoenix Prep (Pictured)

A bigger combo scoring guard has a nice shooting stroke from the three point line. The younger brother of [player_tooltip player_id='1494967' first='Dylan' last='Novak'] has a good feel for the game, as he is very good passer. He will drive and kick it with great timing on his passes. He has long arms on defense to defend multiple positions and he is a plus rebounder for a guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='1366577' first='Ashton' last='Berry'] Phhoenix Prep

A scoring point guard makes good passes up the court and plays smartly off the pick and roll game. He uses a burst of speed to get downhill and is fast in the open court. He will rise up off the dribble and score it and his pull-up is very clean and polished off the dribble from mid to the three. He poured in 19 points to lead all scorers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767170' first='Brody' last='Johnson'] Phhoenix Prep

A shooting guard can score with mid-range fall aways off the dribble, rip thrus going baseline and getting on the glass. He is a good passer down the court for the assist and plays perfectly off of Novak and Berry.

[player_tooltip player_id='2297440' first='Akil' last='Abdullah'] Phhoenix Prep

A wing forward is an easy leaper to rebound and block shots. He scores it around the basket with good hands and with multiple offensive rebound put backs. He moves well in space to defend on the perimeter and is a menace inside the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2149095' first='Amir' last='Pope'] Phhoenix Prep

A scoring combo guard will let it fly from the three point line off the catch. He is undersized but has a polished floater he often uses to shoot over the defense and a nice pull-up from mid-range. He will also pick you up the full length of the court on defense. He scored 15+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767180' first='Cannon' last='Henderson'] AZ Compass Prep

A long wing/guard can score it and defend. He rebounds well inside despite his size versus the older taller players. He will pull-up from mid and hit the catch three in the corners. He moves well end to end and he will sit down and defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767175' first='Chandler' last='Jackson'] AZ Compass Prep

A pure point guard with a nice handle and good court vision. The lefty is really quick on the break and can find teammates to score. He has quick hands and feet to collect steals and once he gets stronger next year, he will be even better.

Chandler JV won 55-46 with some freshmen and sophomores leading the way.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767184' first='Tahli' last='El-Amin'] Chandler

A fast end to end guard is one of the fastest guards in the sophomore class. He has a quick burst to the cup and will cut off the ball and score downhill with his left or right hand. He is a more then capable three point shooter off the catch but it is very easy for him to get downhill to score in traffic using his bounce and real speed. He scored 13+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767188' first='Aaron' last='Smith'] Chandler

A bigger sized scoring guard will pour in points with layups on the break, off balanced contact takes, second chance points with a quick leap up, hook shots and threes. He is predominantly all left hand but shows toughness and will collect steals and rebounds well for a guard. He scored 17+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552733' first='Donovan' last='Palmer'] Chandler

A true rare big plays the 6 quarter rule and plays only first half on JV and then big minutes on varsity. He scores it efficiently around the basket and knows how to seal his man for positioning. He has strong hands and rebounds well. He is a good passer from the high post and thinks the game. He will alter or block many shots per game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2107249' first='Reid' last='Hamati'] Chandler

A highly skilled power forward is another who plays junior varsity and on varsity. He scores with hook shots, and will handle the contact with tough takes to the basket. He can stretch the floor to the three and he is a sneaky good passer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692866' first='Ace' last='McKinley'] Basha

A quick combo guard is a tenacious on-ball defender. He makes good passes with his left or right hand and uses his twitch and long arms to keep his defenders in front of him. He will hit the three off the catch and has a burst to get into the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552765' first='David' last='Rossling'] Basha

An undersized scoring point guard plays with a good pace and has some speed. He also understands how to change speeds smartly. He will dime up his teammates and score. He uses the floater game, speed dribble drives and deep threes. He led the Bears with 13+ points in a low scoring game.
