On Monday, January 27th I attended the match-up of #22 in 5A North Canyon at #4 in 5A Canyon View. Canyon View got out to a quick start and never looked back. Canyon view won it convincingly 101-51.

Canyon View is a legit 5A title contender with many top older AIA players.

North Canyon is trying to make the 5A playoffs with a mainly younger team.

Here were the standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1150852' first='DeNali' last='McNeal'] Canyon View

A true combo guard who is striving for 2,000 career points. He never forces the issue and plays at his own pace. He will score with deep threes, offensive rebound put backs and slick contested layups in traffic. He rebounds well and collects steals. He scored 15 points 6 rebounds 4 assists and 3 steals. He now needs 18 points to get this big time achievement.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371094' first='Quincy' last='Kirk'] Canyon View

The scoring point guard got his but made plays for his teammates. He has next level court vision and found them in stride. He scored with threes, speed dribble drives and got to the rack. His defense led to offense for himself or others. He seemed to be everywhere on defense making it tough to even pass the half court line. He had an impressive stat line of 13 points 5 rebounds 7 assists 5 steals and 1 block.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763218' first='AJ' last='Harris'] Canyon View

A long wing forward is a natural defender in space with long arms and good lateral quickness making it very hard to score on him. He is a great rebounder and will also block shots. He scores mostly around the basket with quick driving layups, transition buckets, dunks and he will hit the three off the catch. He scored 15 points with 5+ rebounds and blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371095' first='Noah' last='Oliver'] Canyon View

A versatile wing forward is a Swiss Army knife for the Jaguars. He only scored 5 points but he may of had 5 steals with his toughness and longer arms with a sturdy upper body. He will also block shots and made some nice passes to his teammates up the court or drive and kicks. He scored with left or right hand layups getting downhill or earning it at the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2318918' first='Connor' last='Hendershot'] Canyon View

Connor got the start alongside of the big-4 and cashed in immediately with a catch and shoot three in the corner. He is one of their knockdown shooters of the team and plays with a bigger IQ. He can get to the basket and will move the ball for a better shot. He scored 5 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956217' first='PJ' last='Nowlin Jr'] Canyon View

A long wing comes into the game quickly off the bench and makes his mark. He is a defensive player by nature and will collect steals in bunches. He scores with and-1's in traffic with contact and quickly gets downhill with a smooth handle and longer strides or will earn it on the line. He scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763220' first='Devin' last='Sanders'] Canyon View

A quick on quick point guard is a little undersized but he can thread the needle for the dime to a teammate. He can score with threes off the catch and will touch the paint and find a cutter or shooter. He is another that collects steals and brings some speed to the court. He scored 3 points with multiple assists and steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2412784' first='Teviyon' last='Jackson'] Canyon View

Jackson is a little undersized but plays the game with a high motor. He has plus length and some vertical pop to score with alley-oops, second and third jumps for offensive rebound put backs and left or right hand layups. He scored 8 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1724929' first='Hayes' last='Kinney'] Canyon View

A highly skilled combo guard is one of the better shooters in the program. He makes smart reads for assists and will score. He will put up points with threes off the catch and will ball fake into a pull-up from mid-range. He scored 13 points with 3 triples.

[player_tooltip player_id='2754862' first='Anthony' last='Stokes'] Canyon View

A newcomer for me is a transfer by way of Millennium. He came in off the bench and provided some energy. length and athleticism. He uses his long arms to score inside with some toughness and will grab a ball out of his area and lay it in. He uses his length on defense. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2754852' first='Dom' last='Dampier'] North Canyon

A scoring guard is a newcomer for me. He scores with catch and shoot threes and he can burst into the lane and uses the floater game well. He likes to score it around the hoop using a nice handle and some toughness. He scored 5 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2412234' first='Landri' last='Pinckney'] North Canyon

A scoring lead guard is a little undersized but he can get downhill after a burst to the basket. He scores with corner threes, getting to the free throw line and takes contact well. He can in and out dribble and then score tough layups in traffic over the defenders. He has a nice runner and he can crossover to create some separation from his defenders. He scored 14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1726571' first='Rinor' last='Gerbiqi'] North Canyon

A bigger combo lead guard is a good passer with a high feel for the game. He scored 17 points with floaters, deep threes using a jab step, mid-range pull-ups off the dribble and he is elusive to burst down the lane. He will also steal the ball and take it coast to coast thru contact. A nice newcomer who leads North Canyon.

[player_tooltip player_id='2345479' first='Milton' last='Phinnessee'] North Canyon

A huge post player is young and a little raw but improving. He scores with drop step moves and he will defend. He rebounds, alters or blocks shots at a high level. He had one part of the game where he blocked players three in a row impressively. If he gets some position he will score with his size. He scored 3 points with multiple blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2754847' first='Malik' last='Robinson'] North Canyon

Another newcomer for me handles the ball well, and a lot of the pressure, as one of their primary ball handlers. He has a super quick handle and will score with getting downhill with a burst of speed and using the floater game or getting to the free throw line. He scored 7 points.

On Monday, January 27th I attended the match-up of #22 in 5A North Canyon at #4 in 5A Canyon View. Canyon View got out to a quick start and never looked back. Canyon view won it convincingly 101-51.
