<p>On January 5th, 6th Man Hoops hosted a New Year's showcase at Newark Collegiate Academy in Newark, NJ. 6th Man Hoops' New Year's Shoot Out highlighted some prospects that have flow under the radar to over the first month or so of the season. Let's take a look at some guys at the guard position that stood out over the course of Sunday's action. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='2763494' first='Jayden' last='Solomon'] was in constant attack of the basket against Trenton High School, consistently generating rim pressure. Solomon was getting to the rim whenever he wanted and drawing contact, ultimately earning him multiple trips to the free throw line. As the primary ball handler for Newark Collegiate's offense, Solomon also did a good job playmaking and getting his teammates involved, finding guys ahead in transition, hitting his bigs for dump offs, or kicking out to open shooters in the half court. Solomon finished the game with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Erupting for a career high 32 points against Lincoln (NY), [player_tooltip player_id='2349988' first='Michai' last='White'] showcased much of his polished offensive skillset that makes him so advanced as just a freshman. White displayed his catch and shoot ability, knocking down 6 threes from behind the three point line. White also showcased his ability to be a floor general and make a lot of the right reads, creating opportunities for himself and his teammates as well as finish plays in transition. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='2786649' first='Avery' last='Cano'] showcased his abilities to thrive on both sides of the ball for Lyndhurst in the ways in which he was able to score the basketball as well as defend his position. Offensively, Cano excelled off the ball knocking down open catch and shoot threes and pull up jumpers, both in the half court and in transition. Cano was also able to attack closeouts and get in the paint, showing good touch on his floater as well as an ability to finish through contact and get to the free throw line. Defensively, Cano did a good job of containing drives, effectively contesting shots, rebounding well for his position, and playing with good anticipation defending on the ball. [player_tooltip player_id='2786649' first='Avery' last='Cano'] finished the game with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 5 steals. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Operating as Lyndhurst's primary ball handler and setting the offense for most of the game, Johnny Chaname showed good poise shouldering the ball handling responsibilities, initiating offense as well as getting his teammates involved. Chaname did a good job of attacking the basket and finishing at the rim through contact, ultimately earning a few trips to the free throw line. Chaname was also an effective threat off the ball, playing within the flow of Lyndhurst's offense and knocking down open catch and shoot threes. Chaname finished the game with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Mohamed Swaray was e extremely effective in transition, showcasing not only his ability to defend the basketball and contain drives but also use his strong frame to his finish plays in transition, through contact. Swaray finished the game against Trenton with 15 points and 4 rebounds.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Alex Sadek showcased what he's capable of doing as a three point shooter, particularly off the catch. Knocking down multiple open catch and shoot looks from deep, Sadek displayed how much of a threat he is from behind the three point line. Sadek was also able to his strong frame to finish layups through contact around the basket. Sadek finished the game with 16 points. </p>

Davis knocked multiple open looks from three point range, generated paint touches for Piscataway's offense, moved well without the ball both in the half court and in transition, and rebounded well for his position, and even got to the free throw line. Nate Davis finished the game with 21 points and 5 rebounds. </p>

Pernell was able to keep the ball moving and making the extra pass resulting in Piscataway finding a rhythm offensively for most of the game. Pernell also knocked down multiple open looks from three, ultimately finishing the game with 14 points. </p>
