The upcoming basketball season is approaching fast as tryouts are in the next couple of weeks. The 2028 class might have only played one season of varsity basketball, but that won't stop them from making an impact on the hardwood. The non-NJSIAA section is filled with high level talent in that class, especially in the front court. Here are the 2028 independent school front court prospects to track.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436976' first='Marque' last='Johnson'], 6'5 SF Lawrenceville

Johnson is the top-ranked prospect in the 2028 class and should show why this season. The 6'5 lefty explodes off the floor for dunks and is unafraid of contact. Johnson uses his handle to get to his spot on the floor and pushes the pace well in transition. He has the athleticism to defend multiple positions on the floor and skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor. If Johnson is able to shoot the ball consistently from behind the arc, then he will have a monster 2025-26 season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2628235' first='King' last='Josiah Hamilton'], 6'6 SF/PF Life Center Academy

Hamilton has the ability to play either forward spot, which he should put on display this season. The 6'6 forward runs the floor hard, setting himself for easy layups and baskets in transition. Hamilton can also put the ball on the floor and has a nice touch around the rim. He rips down rebounds on both ends of the floor and influences a ton of shots around the rim. Hamilton is a hard-working forward prospect who should make plays at both ends of the floor throughout the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2504897' first='Wayne' last='Sminkle'], 6'4 SF Pennington

Sminkle has the potential to have a breakout season as he should get more touches in the half court. The 6'4 wing has a good first step, which he uses to beat his defender off the bounce and finishes well around the rim. Sminkle can also score in the mid-range and moves well without the ball in his hands. He uses his length to be disruptive on the defensive end and is an underrated passer. Sminkle is a lanky wing prospect whose ability to score inside and out is something that will help his stock in a big way.

[player_tooltip player_id='2786677' first='Marshall' last='Douglass'], 6'6 PF Hun

Douglass is looking to make a big impact during his debut season with Hun as he transferred in from Bernards. The 6'6 forward has a good face-up game as he can put the ball on the floor and finishes nicely around the basket. Douglass can also get position in the post and can pass out of the post. He holds his ground on the defensive end and is tough to box out on the offensive glass. Douglass is a tough forward prospect who should grab rebounds and finish nicely around the rim throughout the winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2930023' first='Zorian' last='Morris'], 6'5 SF Patrick School

Morris has the ability to play either spot on the wing, which makes him an intriguing prospect to watch. The 6'5 wing has a good first step, which he uses to beat his defender off the bounce and can make shots through contact. Morris can also score in the mid-range and sets his feet before he shoots. He is an underrated passer and slides his feet on the defensive end. Morris' ability to make plays on both ends of the floor will help his game in a big way over the next couple of months.
