Do we have an early favorite? We were surely robbed of a Mr. Basketball candidate showdown last weekend. We break it all down now!

Early Favorite. [player_tooltip player_id='1579885' first='Nolan' last='Groves'] of Orono.

Nolan was the first player to have a Mr. Basketball moment when he had the 16 point overtime performance leading Orono over top ranked Wayzata (46 points for the game and that was against [player_tooltip player_id='1560867' first='Christian' last='Wiggins']). Then he followed that knocking off Fargo Davies going head to head with Mason Klabo scoring 30. This Saturday it's Groves and Orono versus CDH so Groves and Ahneman will be on the same floor.

Early Favorites Part 2. [player_tooltip player_id='1572690' first='Chase' last='Thompson'] of Alexandria and [player_tooltip player_id='1310206' first='Tommy' last='Ahneman'] of CDH.

These two were going back and forth in a classic individual match-up in what was a great game, and then Chase hurt his shoulder and had to sit. It really sucked because Chase vs Tommy was great basketball to watch. Chase had 19 points and nine rebounds before getting hurt. Ahneman finished the game with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and then had 27 points and 12 rebounds last night making 13 of 15 shots.

The Ahneman vs Groves game (Mr. Basketball wise) should be a lot of fun this weekend at The Big Stage.

Final Five. Chase Watley of Totino-Grace and [player_tooltip player_id='1572689' first='Jalen' last='Wilson'] of BSM.

Chace had 32 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in the Hopkins game, another 30 last night against Farmington, and then 17 in the win over Wayzata. The Eagles have Spring Lake Park and Breck next.

Wilson's BSM team is playing at a high level right now. Jalen is scoring nearly 27 points a game this year so far. He had 38 against Richfield in the opener and then had 21 in both games that followed (Shakopee and Breck).

Next Up

[player_tooltip player_id='1574223' first='CJ' last='Armstrong'] is scoring 29 a game for Richfield who is 3-1. He recently had 35 against Cooper and 29 against Southwest, now we get to see CJ against the Hopkins guards this weekend at.... The Big Stage.

[player_tooltip player_id='1574216' first='Azayah' last='Washington'] of Apollo opened with a big showing scoring 39 against Hutch and last night he had 26 against Detroit Lakes. Had 22 in a loss to Rocori. Apollo has a big game with Alexandria next Tuesday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1288748' first='Tyler' last='Wagner'] of Champlin Park. You want to talk consistent.... it doesn't get more consistent than scoring 30 against Irondale, another 30 against Farmington, and then another 30 against Farmington. Maybe another 30 this week against Chaska and Blaine?

[player_tooltip player_id='1874916' first='Micah' last='Curtis'] of St. Louis Park. Micah is out here posting double doubles like he's Ben Wallace. He just had 33 and 14 against Minnehaha Academy and then 32 and 15 against Holy Family last night against Holy Family.

[player_tooltip player_id='1574212' first='Anthony' last='Smith'] of Hopkins. A3 had 26/5/3/3 against TG, 29/5/2/2 against Mankato East, and 16 points last night facing Southwest Christian in a blowout.
