Poinsettia Classic: Carolina Bracket Saturday Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 2024 Poinsettia Classic took place this week at Greenville High School in Greenville, South Carolina. I was in attendance on Saturday, December 28th evaluating Day 3 of the Carolina Bracket which featured Fountain Inn, Southside, Eastside, AC Flora, Mauldin, Spartanburg, Fort Mill, and North Augusta. Terry had a very strong shooting performance for Fountain Inn to help them avoid going winless at the Poinsettia Classic. He started off strong with a confident, in-rhythm three and then gradually had more action run to get him open as he continued to knock down outside shots. Cunningham's jump shot is mechanically sound with no wasted movement and he stays shot-ready without the ball. Will is a true Point Guard who has the ball in his hands on every possession running the offense for the Falcons. He has a great feel for when and how to get his teammates the ball, constantly putting them in positions to be successful. Willard is also crucial to his team's defensive pressure, something they went to often to try to speed their opponents up. In the last minute of the game, Brandon hit a go-ahead mid-range jumper, assisted a corner three, and converted on a pair of free throws to seal the game. Ray is a skilled guard who had success scoring the ball inside and out, putting up 18 Points in the game. He displayed an ability to finish with both hands, craftiness in carving out space in the lane, and confidence in spotting up behind the arc. He is an undersized post player but battles in the paint on both ends of the floor. Saint-Amour was particularly effective in the second half, scoring 7 Points including an offensive putback and an and-one. Eli has good skill with his back to the basket and will punish a mismatch. He also did a good job of working through contact, both in defending his paint and cleaning up the boards. Harris is a high-level shot maker, particularly in the mid-range. He is comfortable pulling up when driving left or right and even has a nice hesitation move that he can use to get all the way to the rim. Dyllan also has a soft touch on floaters and strong-hand shots in the paint. Parker put up 22 Points on 4 3PM, 6 Rebounds, and 3 Assists in the loss to North Augusta. He is a knockdown spot-up shooter who is scrappy in his style of play. Logan is a pest on the offensive glass, can finish around big bodies in the paint, and will take a charge. He came out on fire in the Championship Game, putting up 12 Points in the first quarter. Dunbar excelled at knocking down jump shots, both in the mid-range and behind the arc. Although he cooled off a little bit in the second half, Daron still made one of the plays of the tournament with a nasty posterizing dunk through a foul, which he converted into a three-point play with the ensuing free throw line.
