There were a number of remarkable individual performances around the state in the opening week of action. Below we take a look at eight of the top Class 2A showings from the first seven days of action in a series that we plan to continue throughout the year, hopefully without too many repeats!

2025 PF [player_tooltip player_id='1951832' first='Cael' last='Reichter'] (North Fayette Valley) -- 32 points (15-25 FG, 0-1 3P, 2-4 FT), 20 rebounds (13 offensive), 3 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks [vs. Central Elkader]

Of of several players to post a 20-20 in the opening week, Reichter was fantastic in a blowout win over Central Elkader, showing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. An athletic forward with good size at 6-7, he was excellent on the glass and on the defensive end.

2026 PF [player_tooltip player_id='2628806' first='Tyler' last='Baatz'] (Tri-Center) -- 29 points (12-18 FG, 5-9 FT), 20 rebounds (10 offensive), 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 block [vs. IKM-Manning]

Another 20-20 performance in the opening week, Baatz was great against IKM-Manning was an interior scorer, dominant rebounder, and perhaps most impressively, as a playmaker and passer out of the post. His 10 offensive rebounds matched the number of defensvie rebounds that IKM had as a team! He helped lead the Trojans to a nice double-overtime win.

2025 SG [player_tooltip player_id='1381425' first='Mason' last='Watkins'] (West Burlington) -- 37 points (15-22 FG, 5-10 3P, 2-3 FT), 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 block [vs. Canton (MO)]

The future North Florida guard was truly dominant against Canton in an out-of-state matchup, shooting 68% from the floor while dropping 37 points. In addition to his dominant and efficient scoring, he was impressive as a playmaker and facilitator for the Falcons, who once again figure to be one of the best teams in 2A.

2027 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2419699' first='Braylon' last='Bingham'] (Pleasantville) -- 35 points (16-19 FG, 3-6 3P), 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals [vs. Melcher-Dallas]

Bingham is coming off a fantastic freshman season, and he got off to a great start to his sophomore campaign last week, including this double-double performance in which he also showcased his improved playmaking and court vision. His length and athleticism allow him to be a menace on the defensive end, and he was a terror in a blowout win over an overmatched Melcher-Dallas team.

2025 SG [player_tooltip player_id='2617509' first='Jackson' last='Lieurance'] (Cascade) -- 33 points (11-17 FG, 3-5 3P, 8-8 FT), 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block [vs. Hempstead]

One of the top pure scorers in the state, Lieurance put together another explosive, highly efficient, scoring night by dropping 33 points against 4A Dubuque Hempstead. Lieurance's contribution on the glass was a nice added bonus.

2027 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2754709' first='JD' last='Morrical'] (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows) -- 13 points (6-13 FG, 1-4 3P), 9 rebounds, 10 assists [vs. West Hancock]

Morrical, part of a really talented group of sophomores at CGD, nearly posted an opening week triple-double in their win over West Hancock, falling just one board short. He has a really good feel for the game, great vision, and is good when he's playing downhill and putting pressure on opposing defenses.

2025 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2721807' first='Cole' last='Higgins'] (South Central Calhoun) -- 26 points (9-19 FG, 1-7 3P, 7-9 FT), 14 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks [vs. South Hamilton]

A strong, physical wing who can score in bunches, the most impressive part of Higgins' showing against South Hamilton was his work as a playmaker and distributor, falling just one helper shy of a triple-double. He's going to be asked to do a lot for a Titans team that is breaking in several new pieces, and if his playmaking improvement is for real, he could be in line for a ridiculous senior year.

2027 PF [player_tooltip player_id='2617535' first='Reese' last='Montgomery'] (Red Oak) -- 27 points (12-26 FG, 2-5 3P, 1-6 FT), 21 rebounds (13 offensive), 4 steals [vs. Lenox]

Grabbing 13 rebounds in a game is a pretty impressive feat, and that's just what Montgomery did on the offensive glass. He was a man amongst boys in the Tigers win over Lenox, dominating the painted area and the glass. His 21 rebounds were just 10 less than Lenox had as a team.
