St. Laurence Depth of Guards Lead to Win

In the first contest it was Chicago Catholic League power St. Laurence against Dunlap from central Illinois. Dunlap made a few runs at it making it close, but St. Laurence was in control for the majority of the game winning by a final of 65-52. What stands out about St. Laurence is that they have so many talented guards! Four seniors and two sophomores that can legit play in college along with one versatile forward. Purdue Fort Wayne commit [player_tooltip player_id='1766461' first='EJ' last='Mosley'] is a lengthy lead guard that does a nice job of picking his spots to score while setting up others as he had 6 points. Three senior shooting guards in [player_tooltip player_id='1766462' first='Zerrick' last='Johnson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1550741' first='Jacob' last='Rice'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1544818' first='Bradley' last='Stratton'] who all contributed. Rice returns to the state after a year in Ohio. Strong bodied wing that's specialty is shooting although he didn't hit a three in this one scoring 10 points mostly in the paint including a strong take from the mid-post for an and-1 along with a pull up from 15 feet. Johnson is a powerful slasher that loves to use his strength and athleticism to win on straight line takes finishing this one with 11 points. It was a three point barrage from [player_tooltip player_id='1544818' first='Bradley' last='Stratton'] draining three of them en route to 11 points. Their sophomore guards are [player_tooltip player_id='2125677' first='Reggie' last='Stevens'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2323617' first='Markese' last='Peoples']. Stevens is a top 10 2027 that looks the part with his fluid athleticism and shot making from two and three scoring 8 points. Peoples is a thick bodied guard that scores in the paint. The versatile forward is senior [player_tooltip player_id='1545122' first='Caleb' last='Lindsey'] who is a versatile defender that continues to improve his shooting as he hit three from beyond the arc in this one for 11 points. That along with his plus athleticism should make him a commodity late in the recruiting process.

Dunlap got a monster game from senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2724315' first='Austin' last='Walker']. The 6'0” senior dropped 20 points in the loss as he went right at the St. Laurence plethora of guards winning off the bounce with regularity. Spinning layups, runners, pull ups, and a three. Small colleges should definitely take a look. Big man [player_tooltip player_id='2724361' first='Isaac' last='Foster'] is a thick bodied big man who has nifty footwork scoring on spin moves into hooks along with seals in the post. Went for 12 points. Eli Michaniou is a crafty guard that plays with flair scoring in the paint along with hitting a three for 8 points.

Top 10 Senior and Unknown Junior Square Off in Shot Making Show

The final game of the evening Quincy opened up their season on their home floor against Lindblom out of Chicago. Early on it was a show from Quincy behind their star [player_tooltip player_id='1385298' first='Bradley' last='Longcor'] who had 7 quick points on a massive dunk, three, and another dunk off a steal. They looked like they were going to run away with it, but Lindblom would not let them get separation as they drained three after three as unknown junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2439329' first='William' last='Occomy'] was phenomenal draining shot after shot tying the game up in the third quarter. Quincy would pull away in the last quarter and a half to win though by a final of 76-58.

For Quincy their star Longcor was in his bag! Got whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. The silky smooth combo guard seems to have added some strength and improved his athleticism since we saw him even in July. Was winning off the dribble and playing above the rim on strong takes. The long ball also fell as he knocked in four of his feathery shots that are one of his strengths. Passed it well off live dribbles throughout the game to shooters and cutters. Finished the night with 25 points in the win. Inside unsigned senior post [player_tooltip player_id='1385308' first='Keshaun' last='Thomas'] is among the better big men left on the board in the state. Broad shouldered and mobile tht can score with touch around the hoop on hook shots, layups on cuts, and has a nice looking face up jumper from mid-range on the baseline which he even stretched into a corner three once for 15 points. We also liked his activity level on the defensive end as a defender in the paint, but also getting deflections and steals in passing lanes on the perimeter. [player_tooltip player_id='1545125' first='Dominique' last='Clay'] is an Austin Peay commit that had a slow start, but helped blow it open in the fourth scoring 10 of his 13 points in the fourth. Silky smooth shooter with size had three triples along with popping a sweet pull up in the mid-range. [player_tooltip player_id='2304110' first='Mark' last='Louthan'] is a sleeper senior post who is active on the glass and always seems to be around the ball to make a play. Solid shooter as well chipping in 8 points. Point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1766498' first='Kamren' last='Wires'] pushed the pace and dished the rock in the win.

Lindblom's junior [player_tooltip player_id='2439329' first='William' last='Occomy'] was outstanding in a game where he definitely made a name for himself. The 6'2” shooting guard poured in six from beyond the arc scoring all 22 of his points through the first three quarters. He had the gym buzzing each time it went through the nets. Showed some athleticism and potential as a wing defender as well. Their ranked sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2455378' first='Ed' last='Williams'] IV is a tough as nails leader who is a crisp passer that can win on straight line takes, hit an open three, and backed his man in banking in a 10 footer netting 9 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2617464' first='Zion' last='Wilkins'] was the other guard that caught our attention scoring 10 points on a pair of threes and a couple acrobatic conversions.
