Bulldogs Bounce Back in Second Half to Defeat Grizzlies

First up on Friday's slate was Boiling Springs versus High Point Academy. [player_tooltip player_id='2314654' first='Chris' last='Copeland'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2678771' first='Manning' last='Camp'] traded early threes, but [player_tooltip player_id='2692025' first='Joc' last='Miller'] was the key player in the early stretches. He had 9 Points and 3 Assists off the bench in the first half including a pair of free throws to extend the High Point lead to double digits, but [player_tooltip player_id='2879609' first='Luke' last='Underwood'] hit a nice floater at the end of the half to make it 33-24. The Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run in the middle of the third quarter including buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='1985871' first='Reese' last='Walter'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2861516' first='Tyvion' last='Hall']. However, in the fourth quarter, the size and athleticism of [player_tooltip player_id='1465116' first='Isaiah' last='Atkins'] and Jymire Wright was too much for the Grizzlies to handle as the duo combined for 19 Points and 18 Rebounds.

18-0 Second Quarter Propels Woodmont to Victory

The second game of the PD Terry Bracket featured the Woodmont Wildcats and the Mountain View Prep Stars. [player_tooltip player_id='2678766' first='Termaine' last='Williams'] continued his streak of hot play putting up 8 first-quarter points, but Micah Donald battled for loose balls and found some teammates in transition in a close period. In the second quarter, right after [player_tooltip player_id='2528318' first='Charles' last='Salley'] hit a three to make it a 21-19 game, the Wildcats pulled away with a massive 17-0 run holding the Stars scoreless for the last 4 1/2 minutes of the half. AJ Williams's playmaking, Auston Wiliams's shooting, and Jordan Smith Berry's transition play were all positives in Woodmont's key stretch. Justin Downs hit a three at the end of the third quarter to make it a 24-point lead and the Wildcats never looked back despite nice play in the fourth from [player_tooltip player_id='2881394' first='Browan' last='Smith'] and Noah Byrd.

Biggest Standouts:

Jymire Wright (Boiling Springs) - Jymire leads off my list of standouts from Day One of the Hoops on the Hill Classic PD Terry Bracket. He is an important piece off the bench who will often close games from the Bulldogs because of his size and physicality. Wright can hold down either post position for the team and is strong on the offensive glass, active in passing lanes and blocking shots, and a hard screener. He does a great job of battling through contact to fight for loose balls or finish close to the rim. Jymire finished with 7 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Steals, and 1 Block in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692025' first='Joc' last='Miller'] (High Point) - Miller was impressive for the Grizzlies on Friday. He too brought great minutes off the bench and was a vocal point in the High Point offense during their good stretches. Joc was their most aggressive offensive option and did a solid job of getting the ball downhill both in transition and in the half-court. Miller showed that he could finish with both hands around the rim or pull up in the face of defenders in the mid-range. Joc put up 11 Points, 3 Assists, and 2 Steals in the game.

Auston Williams (Woodmont) - Auston was the star of the show for the Wildcats in an impressive win in Simpsonville. He is a very good shooter and had several offensive plays run to get him open looks, particularly on baseline out-of-bounds sets. Williams has deep range and is capable of getting to the rack off the dribble too. On the defensive end, Auston works hard and brings intensity throughout the game. His active hands contested shots well and created a couple of turnovers. Williams is a nice 3 & D weapon for Woodmont and tallied 15 Points and 2 Steals in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2678766' first='Termaine' last='Williams'] (Mountain View) - Williams was a standout last Friday Night at the Hoopwave Classic but was even better tonight at the Hoops on the Hill Classic. He racked up a massive 28 Point and 11 Rebound Double-Double giving the Wildcats interior defense fits. In the first half, he did a great job of working with his back to the basket and finishing over both shoulders. However, in the second half, he started to see more double teams in an attempt to keep him away from the basket. So Termaine adjusted by becoming more active on the offensive glass and becoming a screener. Williams has been terrific so far this season and is a guy who I will be continuing to monitor as the season progresses.
