Southern Wake Academy jumped out into things focused in the early going as the offense moved the ball and got an and-1 to quickly make it 3-0. A few possessions later, it was 11-0 with [player_tooltip player_id='2130040' first='Seung' last='Surmons'] leading the scoring charge as Voyager Academy called an early timeout to regroup. After the timeout, Voyager would finally get on the board as [player_tooltip player_id='2607596' first='McKinley' last='Hemsley'] knocked down five quick points.

Surmons would continue to surge on offense, though Voyager would keep it close and go on a run, making things 24-17 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lions would hold firm on the lead, leading 30-21 halfway through the second quarter. Voyager got some good looks at the basket, but shots just weren't falling. At the half, Southern Wake led 37-29.

In the third quarter, the Lions would turn things up a notch, as they outscored 19-10 to really build out their lead. [player_tooltip player_id='2127097' first='Bryan' last='Epperson'] really stepped up on both ends of the floor for the Lions to provide more of a spark as he put up seven of his nine points in the third quarter. He's starting to figure things out in the frontcourt and beyond as the season gets going. After three, Southern Wake Academy held the lead 56-42.

In the fourth quarter, Southern Wake would find their rhythm once again behind their backcourt duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1797957' first='Kobe' last='Plata'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2130040' first='Seung' last='Surmons']. Plata and Surmons really found their edge as disruptors defensively as well as creators on offense in building the lead. They led by as many as 24 points as they would run away with things in the final going all the way to the final of 71-49.

Surmons exploded once again in the backcourt for SWA with 22 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals (unofficially) to provide quite the two-way spark. He's on his way to being quite the stock-riser four games into the year for the Lions while averaging 19.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.7 assists per game. He's a prospect for DII/DIII programs in the region to start tracking.

Plata was quite the playmaker for SWA in building a lead and holding onto it on Tuesday night. He finished with 12 points, five assists and four steals in another impressive showing at the point guard role. He's impressive the most when he's pushing the pace and keeping defenders guessing with his vision on the court. As he starts to figure things out attacking the basket himself, he's going to be a problem for SWA down the stretch.

Wilson was his usual self as he's finding his role in the SWA with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. He's another prospect who's starting to find things to become a lot easier as he pushes the pace and attacks the painted area as he did a number of things to help the Lions' winning cause. He's a prospect for DII programs in the region to start adding to their radar.

Epperson is another prospect in the SWA rotation who's starting to figure out his role as a presence in the painted area and shotmaker on the perimeter. He did well with 12 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two assists (unofficially) in showcasing his versatility on the floor at 6-foot-7. As he finds his consistency in the rotation, he's another weapon for the Lions to rely on.

Pullium placed himself squarely on the PH radar in the 2026 class with his performance with Voyager Academy. He showed off an ability to read and react well to the defense and take advantage of opportunities in the mid-range to showcase his ability to make shots. He's a prospect in the Durham area to track given his activity on both ends of the floor.

He showed flashes of his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter as well as attack off the bounce with 12 points for the Vikings. As he continues to develop his game, he'll need to build a consistent array of moves in the halfcourt to be a factor on the floor. He can utilize his athleticism more as a presence flying around defensively as a shot-blocker and rebounder. He's got plenty of time to improve on things at a new place.
