Expert Analysis
Tre Cordon | Prep Hoops Scout
The leading scorer for the Southern Wake Academy squad did not disappoint in the regional final round, Seung paced his squad with a team high 17 points. More impressively than the amount that he finished the game with was the timing of the buckets he scored, every time Washington County went on a run it was the senior guard who hit the shot to silence the crowd. Sermon also did a solid job of contributing in other parts of the stat sheet chipping in 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals as well.

In the final of the game of the night his team matched up with BBA and despite his team coming up short, he put together one of the better shooting performances of the day. He is an outstanding three-point shooter and doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off.

Surmons continues to show his growth in the backcourt as an all-around scoring presence. He showed he could operate with consistency scoring the ball inside and out with his ability to navigate the defense and get paint touches. He’ll be a name for DII and DIII programs to know as he comes along in the Southern Wake Academy rotation this season.

Surmons has shown his consistency scoring the ball on all levels with NLPB on the grassroots scene. Whether off the bounce or off the catch, he keeps defenders guessing with his ability to score the ball from all areas. Surmons didn’t get a win today with his group, but he definitely paced them offensively, as he was the leading scorer and looked to be the most comfortable taking on the best defenders. He looked comfortable changing speeds and directions, constantly giving defenders something different to think about while either trying to get to the paint or to a pull up jumper. Solid perimeter shooter but does go through stretches where he’s hot vs. cold.

Surmons knocked down some key 3-pointers in the first half before cooling off in the second. He shot 3-of-7 from deep and finished with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench, providing quite the spark. As he learns to facilitate and make plays for others off the bench, he’s got a bright future ahead of him in the Southern Wake backcourt.
