In the semifinals, McClure was a big reason why his team squeaked out a two point victory in the end. A tough guard to contain off the dribble, McClure was getting to his spots and putting a lot of rim pressure. Also a knockdown shooter, McClure hit some tough contested 3-pointers throughout the day. Defensively, I continued to be encouraged by his activity with a couple forced turnovers off full court pressure.

The champions had a variety of players stand out in a dominant effort to claim victory on Saturday morning. Starting with Lynch, he was knocking down 3-pointers off the catch, playing within himself and making the extra pass. Overall the crisp ball movement of their team was the key reason in why they were so hard to defend.

When you have multiple players who can bring the ball up the court, handle pressure and set teammates up, you give yourself a great chance to find open shots and that's what Maurer helped with on Saturday. When the defensive intensity turned up, I thought Maurer did a nice job of keeping his cool and using his high IQ to find the open man and swing the basketball. Even knocking down a couple 3-pointers in the second half, Maurer helped put the game away after a run made it close for a little bit.

In fall leagues where players come from all over the city to team up, sometimes chemistry is the toughest thing to achieve. If you've noticed a third straight Hilliard Davidson player featured in this article, you can probably assume chemistry was a key reason why this team was so hard to beat. I thought Emery was the perfect glue piece on Saturday, being a tough defender, making open shots and just overall impacting winning. A scrappy guard who will defend, spot-up in the corner and talk on defense can go a long way these days and Emery checks those boxes.

Named fall league MVP, Hess had an excellent season in this league, knocking down shots from the perimeter every Saturday morning. It's the second straight year a Jonathan Alder player has won Midwest Fall League Columbus MVP after Peyton Heiss won it last year. Congrats to Hess for winning MVP and his team for claiming the championship.
