We traveled down to Richmond, VA to attend the CBG Juco Prep Jamboree to check out high school, prep, and junior college teams from the East Coast. The mix of programs made for an interesting evaluation setting as you got to see high school athletes compete with older, more physically-mature prospects. We'll discuss the local prep players that stood out to us, let's get into it!

-Uzochukwu impressed as a slashing guard that bullied his way to the rim, got underneath his matchup to force some turnovers, and helped his team close out a win vs a good GP team. Had a slow first half defensively that limited his minutes but came back with better energy in the 2H to score on several backdoor cuts and drives to the rim. If he buys in and plays for his teammates consistently- he could close out his LC Bird career with a strong senior season

-Started out slow but finished 4/5 down the stretch to help MZHS stave off a late WSC comeback attempt and get out of their with a win. A solid athlete with a good frame, the tempo of Wylie's drives to the rim always are a bit awkward but he gets past his man pretty regularly and cleans up misses well around the basket. If he can shoot the perimeter J more consistently and move off the ball with short corner dives and banana cuts to the rim as often as he did this weekend, he can be a sneaky good late pickup for a college team. The passing from the high post and kickouts to the perimeter from the paint were positive signs of growth as a distributor.

-Although Ibe is still raw on the offensive side of the ball-- his rebounding and shot-blocking at a legit 7' will make him a national name by the end of the season. Some of the big man nuances of timing his rolls to the rim to yo-yo opposite the ball to space, setting physical screens on and off the ball, and taking great angles to block a shot from the helper's spot are coming along nicely. The post footwork and touch in the key seem to get better each time we see him. Excited to see how this MZP team not only developes but uses him alongside Kanga this season

-Athletically speaking- Norcome has gone up another level as a leaper that can clean up misses around the basket and swoop in for some help-side blocks. The defensive versatility remains his calling card as a wing that can guard 2-4 at the HS level on the ball while also being successful as a trapper along the sideline. The touch in the paint has improved but I would like to see a more consistent follow-through and arc on the perimeter jumpshot--although he cashed out twice from 3 against WCS.

-Really liked the fluidity and consistency on the perimeter jumper for Cunningham in this one. With great positional size already as a sophomore, Cunningham knocked down C+S looks from his teammates with consistency and wasn't really bothered by contests. The lateral movement skills and handle are a bit raw, and he will need to add weight to his frame-- but the want-to effort and patience speak to nice upside here as a 3+D wing prospect.

-Standing 6'6 as a freshman with rapidly-developing athleticism and a balanced skillset makes Carter a priority prospect in the 2028 VA class. Carter filled both the lane and wing well in transition as an unselfish scorer that can make plays for teammates. Defensively he is rotating much better as a help defender and stays down on pump fakes to force tough shots over extended contests. If he can tighten his handle to attack closeouts and play-make from the second side, I expect him to serve as a productive 3+D role player for a stacked John Marshall group.

-Skilled combo guard with long arms and a diverse offensive skillset. Parlow is efficient with his dribble, getting into his shot or creating for others within 2 or 3 dribbles. Attacking closeouts from the weakside and knocking down C+S looks will be key for MZP to maintain great spacing throughout the season
