first='Bridger' last='Johnson']

Team Comments

Minot - The Magi have all the players/pieces to be put on top at #1 in the Power Rankings and they also have a guy sitting on the bench as the head coach who knows a thing or two about basketball. Minot always plays hard, tough, and stingy defense. They perform well in transition but will execute to a T in the halfcourt. They also fight tooth & nail for every rebound. [player_tooltip player_id='1177134' first='Aric' last='Winczewski'] is one of the top PG's in ND and a coach on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id='1931467' first='Payton' last='Schell'] is a high-level shooter, has arms that never end, and he is an exceptional shot blocker. [player_tooltip player_id='1177138' first='Grayson' last='Schaeffer'] is a top-notch athlete with loads of versatility and is a playmaker on both ends. [player_tooltip player_id='1871749' first='Landon' last='Bedell'] is a traditional low post with great size. I watched him live this summer and liked what I saw from Bedell. [player_tooltip player_id='2237726' first='Oakley' last='Trueblood'] is a youngster to watch with length, skill, and all sorts of offensive ability. Expect many wins for the Magi in 2024-2025.

Bismarck - [player_tooltip player_id='1219802' first='Andre'' last='Austin'] was All-State last season, expect that to happen again, he will also have a good shot at being a Mr. Basketball candidate. [player_tooltip player_id='1657449' first='Weston' last='Scott'] is another dude for the Demons. He is a high-powered weapon with all the skills & smarts that you could ask for. [player_tooltip player_id='1376827' first='Ross' last='Fischer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1418033' first='Grant' last='Bieber'] are also potent weapons as they will stretch the floor and drain the 3-ball. One of the looming questions for the Demons, is BIG [player_tooltip player_id='1219806' first='Jack' last='Shaffer'] playing basketball? One thing I love about the Demons is their chaotic and pesky defense. They also play fast and shoot a boatload of 3's. I think coach Wilhelm has the horses to make another run to the State Tournament this season.

Bismarck Century - I think the Patriots could end up at the top spot in the WDA if it all comes together, they have a plethora of guards, talent, and shooters. I also believe that they have two All-State players with [player_tooltip player_id='1194507' first='Drew' last='Kempel'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1657448' first='Gibson' last='Kinnebrew']. Add in Nissley and they have three All-WDA ballers. They do not have a ton of size but they have enough to compete with the top teams and their athleticism will give opposing teams fits. Mattern's squads seem to always come out hot early in the season, I suspect that will be the case again this year. When they play the WDA teams for the second time can they take care of business? [player_tooltip player_id='2129360' first='Gilman' last='Sheldon'] is a player with potential who had a great summer. [player_tooltip player_id='1510914' first='Camden' last='Kraemer'] is another baller with potential, I am told that he had a very nice summer of hoops with the Pats. Getting all those skilled players and reserves to buy in will be a challenge, but if anyone can do it, Darin Mattern is certainly capable. It is the season of optimism and PHD is certainly high on the Pats.

Bismarck Legacy - [player_tooltip player_id='1422857' first='Jonathan' last='Roubideaux, Jr.'] could be the breakout player of the year in the WDA, I think he is primed and ready to show out. Add in [player_tooltip player_id='1169148' first='Parker' last='Falcon'] who is the best 3-shooter in the WDA and you have a scary Sabers crowd. I think Mr. Falcon will be so good this year that his name is called as a Mr. Basketball candidate. Parker is not just a shooter from deep, he can score going to the basket, has a sweet pull-up J, and he is a very good rebounder. This summer, Falcon proved he is a gamer, his new nickname should maybe be Mr. Clutch! [player_tooltip player_id='1418038' first='Brody' last='Weigel'] is a player I am intrigued with, this kid is going to make noise this winter. [player_tooltip player_id='2617654' first='Makiya' last='Berryhill'] is another nice player with potential. Beware of the Sabers, they have the ballers to play with the best.

Mandan - [player_tooltip player_id='1219797' first='Hudsen' last='Sheldon'] was an All-State selection last season and we certainly expect that to happen again this year. Young Sheldon averaged 21.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.5 apg, and 4 spg, talk about a stat-stuffer! He also shot 198 FT's last year, those type of numbers are mind-boggling and beyond impressive. [player_tooltip player_id='1219807' first='TJ' last='Brownotter'] will be an X-factor, he went down with an injury last year, I am assuming that he is healthy and ready to roll. [player_tooltip player_id='1327796' first='Brylee' last='Bears Tail'] had a breakout year as a soph shooting the ball, he drilled 48 triples last season. I will not be surprised if those numbers go up as he will be surrounded by creators with his bother Rylee, Shledon, and Brownotter. The problem is, I don't know how much size the Braves have. They do have youngsters with height but I am unsure if they will get any burn. Either way, the Braves will play an entertaining brand of basketball and I am looking forward to watching.

Dickinson - [player_tooltip player_id='2617633' first='Boston' last='Cranston'] had a marvelous soph season and was named to the All-WDA team. He also had a fantastic off-season and will be one of the top players in all of North Dakota for the next two years. Coach Glasser's team has many shooters and speedy athletes, but they lack size. [player_tooltip player_id='2617657' first='Nolan' last='Weidner'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1510890' first='Dylan' last='Glasser'] will have a successful year shooting the ball and [player_tooltip player_id='1539675' first='Nathan' last='Stevenson'] will need to use his strength on the inside to be a difference-maker. [player_tooltip player_id='2613827' first='Lelend' last='Villars'] is a new name to watch for DHS, he has the potential to be a productive role player off the bench. Coach Glasser is a great basketball mind with a passion for the game, if you have ever talked hoops with him or watched him coach, you will get the picture quickly. Yes, the Midgets are a frightening squad and they can pull off an upset on any given night.

St. Mary's - [player_tooltip player_id='1418035' first='Chris' last='Benning'] is one of top shooters in AA and he will definitely put up splashy numbers. [player_tooltip player_id='1531064' first='Jackson' last='Barth'] is ready for a breakout year after big improvement this offseason. [player_tooltip player_id='1657451' first='Brooks' last='Armstrong'] is another intriguing baller with upside. The question is, what do the Saints have after their BIG3?

Minot North - This will be the first year of the Sentinels competing at the varsity level in the WDA. I have heard good things about head coach Drew Hysjulien and Minot North has multiple new players that moved over from Minot High. Can they compete with the big boys of the WDA? How does this team gel together with the new faces? It will certainly be a historical year for the Sentinels.

Jamestown - The Blue Jays have another new head coach this season, so there seems to be many unknowns. However, this is the second time Luke Anderson has been the head coach at Jamestown. [player_tooltip player_id='1497589' first='Thomas' last='Newman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1169147' first='Noah' last='Meissner'] will be the top dawgs. After those two, we will have to see who steps up. Newman put up legit numbers last year, is a talented scorer, and a high-percentage shooter. Meissner also put up solid numbers last year, he is a skilled guard, with a nice jump shot. It will be an interesting season for the Blue Jays.

Williston - Mr. Do-Everything and one of the top players in the state graduated, he is also known as Isiah St. Romain. It will be a tough year for the Coyotes. [player_tooltip player_id='2318984' first='Bridger' last='Johnson'] had a nice season as a junior & was productive. However, it will be a different story with ISR gone. Let's see what sort of numbers Bridger will put up this winter.
