Gulf Coast Classic Standouts

The annual Gulf Coast Classic Pre-Season Shootout at Clear Falls High School showcased some impressive talent on the court. Teams came together not just to compete, but also to build chemistry and give coaches a valuable opportunity to assess their players in live action. Here are some standout performances from the event. Special shout to coaches Wes Bryan and Bryan Shelton for their hospitality!    Demorae firmly established himself as one of the standout players at the event, demonstrating exactly why he's considered one of the top talents in the city. He confidently showcased his shooting ability, knocking down jumpers and three-pointers while proving that he's most effective when attacking the rim, leveraging his length and athleticism. It was evident Pritchett was searching for his shot as he took several contested jumpers and fade aways. If he can consistently knock down shots at a high rate Demorae has a chance to be one of the top scorers in the city this season.   Defensively, Demorae was locked in, helping his Summer Creek squad apply relentless pressure across the court. His contributions led to numerous deflections and steals, setting the tone for a high-energy defensive effort. With his skills and leadership, I expect Summer Creek to go as far as Demorae can lead them this upcoming season!     Rashaad has been on the radar since this past spring as he consistently plays against older competition and never shows any signs of being afraid of the big stage. As a freshmen, he has the chance to be a four year point guard lettermen winner at North Shore High School, which has never been done before in the modern era. Surrounded by a plethora of young talent, Williams has his best days ahead of him and could create a career to have him go down as the winningest player in school history. A true floor general, Williams runs the show and looks to get other teammates involved. Don't get it twisted though, Williams can also score at all three levels when he goes into attack mode.     Chazz was clearly on a mission, refusing to let anyone deter him from his goals on the court. He filled the gym with energy all day and never eased up! As a solid two-way player, Dubois was the engine of an aggressive, defense-focused Summer Creek squad. He was vocal, leading the team with relentless full-court man-to-man pressure throughout the day.   Offensively, Chazz thrived in the mid-post and around the basket, where he showcased his scoring ability with multiple conversions and impressive put-backs. His energy and determination set the tone for his Summer Creek teammates, making him a non-negotiable asset on both ends of the floor,     Fresh off a strong summer season with his Texas Takeover squad, Taj continued his strong play with his Galveston Ball High School team. Taj reminded opponents of how he can get to the rim using his long strides and length. Using his experience and skill Taj is able to pick his spots and generate offense by himself. He had to carry the scoring load for his team and single handedly kept his team within striking distance during the 1st half versus a deep and talented North Shore team. Taj projects to be a 1st team all district performer this season and could lead his team on a deep playoff run once they have all their players in sync.     Dillon is a standout young prospect with immense potential! Already recognized as one of the better shooters in his class, he excels at making winning plays while seamlessly fitting into his role on the exceptionally talented North Shore team. This squad, led by a core of savvy sophomores, boasts impressive chemistry and a strong track record of success.   In his finale game versus Galveston Ball, Dillon played a pivotal role in a second-half surge that showcased his skills. He hit back-to-back three-pointers and demonstrated his defensive prowess with key deflections and steals once he locked in. As he continues to gain confidence and experience, Dillon has the potential to distinguish himself as one of the top prospects in a loaded 2027 class. Keep an eye on him—his future looks bright!     Sean has already established himself as one the top prospects in the state in the talent rich 2027 class. Super skilled and polished for a young forward prospect, Sean just makes the game look so easy. Anytime he is around the rim he fluidly uses his footwork and length to score efficiently. An active rim runner he is always creating lanes for teammates to score or hit him in transition. If Sean can become a consistent stretch shooting and add power to his frame; Mayberry will be a legit Division 1 prospect.
