Elite 75 Frosh/Soph Showcase South Edition Standouts Part 3

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This weekend, New England Recruiting Report and its staff hosted their annual Freshman and Sophomore showcase for basketball players in the New England area. The North Edition was hosted on Friday at the Mansfield Fieldhouse in Mansfield, Massachusetts, while the South Edition was hosted yesterday at Hamden Hall in Hamden, CT. Hundreds of players from across the region competed in drills and live games to show off their skills in front of many prep and college personnel and coaches. The prestigious event has been around for over a decade, as many current NBA players have participated in this event over the years. I attended yesterday's South Edition and here is part 3 of my standouts from the showcase!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2470870' first='Caleb' last='Chapman'] (Hamden Hall, 2027)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Chapman was on his home floor and looked mighty comfortable throughout the scrimmages. His passing skills were on full display as he was making advanced finds with long passes that were weaved perfectly through traffic to the open man. He was a menace on the boards and was grabbing them with intensity and fervor. He was also scoring in the mid-range with a sweet fadeaway and looked happy to attempt some self-creation and turn in a couple of impact-worthy games.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2470859' first='Sonny' last='Batchelor'] (Westminster, 2027)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The shooting that Batchelor brought to the floor was very evident and showed in many different ways. He was comfortable getting to his spots off the bounce and letting it fly with ease from deep. He showed off his savvy as well, faking a pass on his defender and then hitting a fadeaway middie on the baseline. He continued to thrive with eye manipulation to make his mark, producing a no-look pass in the half-court to an open teammate. His talent really showed through in this setting.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Xavier Ricketts (Rhode Island Elite, 2028)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ricketts has a lot of potential as a lead ball handler with his skill and instinct mix. He displayed a tight handle and was using high-level crossovers and dribble packages to evade defenders. He was starting and stopping on a dime, and using his craft at the rim for easy buckets. He made some impressive long passes in transition as well and should definitely be on the radar going forward.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2561163' first='Semaj' last='Cuyler'] (North Warren Central, 2028)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Cuyler seems to have a good beat on taking advantage of his scoring opportunities in many different aspects of the game. He played with a good pace and meshed his driving game and perimeter game in a balanced and fully realized way. He had a comfortable handle on his drives and even hit some off-the-dribble jumpers from beyond the arch and created some space to do it. The New York native should have a lot of great basketball ahead of him.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2568504' first='Josh' last='Charlot'] (Notre Dame-Fairfield, 2027)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If there was ever a defensive dog at the point guard position, Charlot was and is that. The pressure he was giving on the defensive end was enormous, constantly getting into the grill of everyone who tried to face him. He was making steals, which to turnovers and wide-open baskets on the other end of the court. You don't have to make an impact on offense to make a statement, and the defensive aptitude was a scene to behold.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
