Cathedral Prep Team Preview: 7 Players to Watch

Cathedral Prep should be one of the top teams in District 10 this season. These six players will all have significant roles for the Ramblers. Note: This is not a complete report on everyone on the roster. These are just seven players I've recently scouted.    [player_tooltip player_id='2466501' first='Nando' last='Mirarchi'] will be a major catalyst for Cathedral Prep's success this season. He has already firmly established himself as the best point guard in District 10. Known for his knockdown shooting stroke, Mirarchi forces defenders to guard him well beyond the three-point line. What makes Mirarchi truly special is his versatility. He is equally effective running the fast break, where his exceptional vision and passing ability allow him to find open teammates in scoring position. His basketball IQ is second to none. Mirarchi excels at getting his teammates involved, all while being a reliable scorer himself. Mirarchi's work ethic stands out as well. He has been relentless in improving his game, spending his summer attending high-level camps and playing well on the AAU circuit. This dedication has drawn attention from several colleges, including Bucknell, Holy Cross, and Youngstown State. As Cathedral Prep looks to make a strong run this year, Mirarchi will be at the forefront of their campaign.     At 6'5", [player_tooltip player_id='2288500' first='Michael' last='Thompson'] brings a dynamic skill set that will be pivotal to the Ramblers' success. Thompson's combination of speed, agility, and vertical leap makes him a threat on both ends of the floor, and his versatility on offense is sure to give Cathedral Prep a boost this season. Thompson's offensive game has taken significant strides. His shooting stroke from beyond the arc has become one of his most dangerous weapons — he shot 50% from 3-point range during the AAU season. Thompson also excels in creating for his teammates. His court vision and passing ability, especially in transition, allow him to make plays and find open teammates in stride. He has grown into a complete player, capable of both scoring in bunches and distributing the ball. Thompson's work ethic is unmatched. He's always in the gym refining his game, and his dedication is clearly paying off. With the size and skill set that college coaches covet, Thompson is primed for a breakout season.     Max Wallace has continued to elevate his game both offensively and defensively. Wallace's unique skill set as a big man who can also step outside and knock down shots makes him a crucial piece for Prep's frontcourt. His ability to face up and hit shots from outside forces defenders to step out, opening up the floor for his teammates. With solid footwork and balance, Wallace can also post up. His touch around the rim makes him tough to defend in low-post situations. On the defensive side, his ability to wall up against stronger players without fouling is a testament to his basketball IQ and discipline. Wallace's rebounding is another key element of his game—he's always active on the boards. He's already garnered interest from DIII schools and has been taking visits.     Spencer Kanne is known for his exceptional shooting range. Last season, he was primarily a sharpshooting specialist for the Ramblers, but he's taken his game to another level during the summer. His shooting ability will continue to stretch defenses and open up opportunities for his teammates. However, what makes Kanne even more valuable is his ability to play either guard spot. He has a high basketball IQ, handles pressure well, and can control the tempo of the game with his composure and court vision. His decision-making and ability to dictate the flow of play make him a reliable leader on the court. With a big senior year ahead, Kanne has put in the work over the summer to improve all aspects of his game. He is positioning himself to be one of the top three-point shooters in District 10 next season and will likely surprise some opponents with his well-rounded game and increased aggressiveness.     Cormac Thunell is one of the most intriguing young players for Cathedral Prep. At 6'5", he brings versatility to the floor as a combo guard who can do a little bit of everything. He excels in distributing the ball, scoring, and making crucial defensive plays. Thunell can shoot the cover off the ball, whether it's stepping out to hit from deep or coming off screens. His ball-handling is smooth, and his court vision makes him a great passer. He plays with a lot of poise and never looks rattled under pressure. Defensively, Thunell is tenacious and will battle for every possession. He is also a force on the boards. His versatility shines through in his ability to play inside-out — he can step down into the post when he has a mismatch and use his length to his advantage, or step outside and knock down the three.     As a rising sophomore, [player_tooltip player_id='2427351' first='Marco' last='Pfister'] is set to play a significant role for Cathedral Prep this season. He's known for his excellent shooting range. Pfister's confidence with the ball in his hands is evident — he has a smooth handle and attacks the rim with purpose. His quickness allows him to blow by defenders, and once he's in the lane, his impressive footwork and soft touch make him a reliable finisher, even in traffic. Pfister's mid-range game is something to watch out for. He's capable of getting his shot off in a variety of ways and even boasts a well-developed floater. He's always active on the defensive end, whether it's pressuring ball handlers, getting into passing lanes, or being the first to dive for a loose ball.     [player_tooltip player_id='2569794' first='Elijah' last='Roberson'] is an exciting young combo guard. He built a reputation as a dynamic scorer this AAU season, and is a player who excels in the transition game. With a quick first step and a natural ability to get to the basket, Roberson is a threat in the open floor and is capable of scoring at all three levels. Whether it's pulling up for a jumper, navigating traffic to finish at the rim, or utilizing his quality floater, Roberson has the tools to score in a variety of ways. His unselfishness is also key, as he has shown good passing vision and knows when to get his teammates involved.
