Rucker on Wood 2025 High Impact Guards

This weekend, the highly prestigious Rucker on Wood showcase took place at the University of St. Thomas athletic center, and it was a proving ground for the 2025/2026 classes. Several prospects were looking to make a name for themselves and make it to the championship game. Several high name athletes shined as usual, but some newcomers also caught my attention. Let's take a look at some key players who helped their stock rise with important performances and on court IQ.    Trae was a big-time player on both ends for his squad, helping play lockdown defense in the paint and crash the boards for important rebounds. He showed no fear driving to the rim and finished several tough shots against taller competition in the post. Busby can beat the defense with an off the dribble midrange/three pointer or get to the basket with some crafty moves. He hit several shots from the midrange and was applying immense defensive pressure on the perimeter to notch steals at opportune times. Webb knows how to use his quickness to beat his matchup from all three levels of scoring and will be an important contributor for Klein Oak in the starting lineup this year.     RJ was one of the best vocal leaders during the entire 2025 event and was constantly chirping out encouragement to his teammates the whole time they were playing on the court. Greene ran the point with great effectiveness and was a major playmaker with the ball in his hands. RJ plays with active hands on the defensive side of the basketball and is never afraid to pick up full court, even against other high-level guards.     DJ was one of the best slashers in attendance at the Rucker on Wood this Sunday. He constantly put pressure on pushing the ball to the basket and would finish over the top of his defenders, whether he was fouled or not. Damond also can control the tempo of the game really well and can speed up or slow down to the pace that benefits his team. I am very big on Damond's hustle ability as well and his willingness to put his body on the line for loose balls and offensive boards.     Taj was one of the bigger guards that ran the combo guard spots effectively and was key in clutching the championship for his team in the final game. He can finish with great efficiency under the basket and found teammates in open spots for easy assists. He runs the floor with great speed and handles the ball well under pressure. I look forward to a big senior year from him and he hasn't even come close to reaching his potential.
