The 2024 Sizzlin' Summer Shootout took place June 7th and 8th in Greenville, South Carolina. It is one of my favorite events of the entire year and has been a June must-stop since before my Prep Hoops days. There were 32 teams in action across two divisions and 3 locations and it concluded with Boiling Springs High School claiming the Silver Bracket Crown and Oceanside Collegiate Academy claiming the Gold Bracket Crown. Take a look at this list of Rising Freshmen and Sophomore who stood out from the Tournament:

[player_tooltip player_id='1997737' first='Colton' last='Kreger']'s development could have a major impact on the defending 3A State Champion's quest for a repeat. I've really liked some of the steps he's taken with [program_tooltip program_id='2163938' first='Next' last='Level Elite'] in the spring so it was important to see him back with his High School squad this weekend. He is a trusted defender with good size and mobility that was thrown onto Greenville's #1 Option in Saturday's game. He forced a couple of turnovers and got out into transition in the first half before starting to knock down his perimeter shots later in the game. He finished with 13 Points and 2 Steals, all 3 of his 3PM coming in the second half.

Scholl is one of the top pure shooters in the 2027 Class and had a solid weekend for the host, Greenville. Aside from the shooting, one of the things I was most impressed by with Tucker is his ability to be a secondary ball-handler and facilitator of the offense. Often with young shooters, they see a couple go in and immediately go into shot-hunting mode but that is never the case with Scholl. He has tremendous vision, a solid handle, and if you close out too hard he can go by defenders and make plays getting downhill. Tucker also has good hands and can cause turnovers on the defensive end. He knocked down 2 threes, had 4 assists, and forced 2 steals in the matchup with Powdersville.

I was very impressed by Camp's performance in the Silver Bracket Championship Game. He might just be a role player at this point in his career, but he fits the Bulldogs program well. Manning is a reliable shooter, defends his position, can make plays off the dribble, and doesn't let the ball stick in his hands around the perimeter. His ability to do multiple things well and not have a glaring weakness is going to be an asset for Boiling Springs this year and is something that could lead to major development down the line. Camp went for 13 points, 5 Rebounds, and 4 Assists with 3 3PM in that Championship Game.

The defending 4A State Champs weren't at full strength at the 2024 Sizzlin' Summer Shootout, so it left the door open for youngsters like [player_tooltip player_id='2149125' first='Brayden' last='Mack'] to make an impact in front of College Coaches. Brayden is a very talented shooter for his age and started very strongly in a matchup with Greer. He scored back-to-back buckets on the team's opening possessions, one catch-and-shoot three, and one pull-up jump shot from the mid-range, followed by a steal leading out to a runout for a teammate. Mack has good defensive instincts and will also help out on the glass.

Chaz is the first of two young Bobcat standouts that are the foundation of their program's future. Moss's shot has continued to improve over the last year and he is very confident in it from the mid-range or behind the arc. Chaz also has lots of length to impact the game on the defensive end. He is a solid rim protector and does a good job of keeping the ball high and finding an outlet pass after he grabs a board. In a matchup with former Region-foe Pendleton, Moss was much more aggressive after getting an early rest and went for 9 Points, 5 Rebounds, and 2 Blocks.

After an impressive season starting a Point Guard as an 8th Grader, [player_tooltip player_id='2339844' first='Jeremiah' last='Hunter'] will essentially get the keys to the Seneca Offense in his true Freshman Season. He has quick hands, quick feet, and a quick mind on the hardwood. Hunter makes plays on both ends simply because he reads and reacts to things that most players don't see coming. He is also prone to a flashy pass or a nasty crossover that always excites a crowd. Hunter put up 14 Points, 5 Assists, and 5 Steals in the win over Pendleton on Saturday.
