The 2024 South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Live Team Camp took place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in North Augusta, South Carolina at the Riverview Park Activities Center. Over 120 High School programs from the Palmetto State were in attendance at some point throughout the weekend, so this was one of the most important stops of the Prep Hoops SC Calendar. Check out these five prospects from the Upper State in the 2026 Class who stood out to me this weekend:
A.J. Washington A.J. Washington 6'3" | SG Fort Mill | 2026 State SC headlines my list of 2026 prospects from the Upper State. He had a nice performance in a win over Stratford Friday Afternoon, putting up 20 Points and 5 Rebounds. He had a bit of a slow start from the perimeter, but did not lose confidence and continued to shoot it. Those same shots started to fall as the game went on, and he hit his final 4 attempts from behind the arc. Washington is not overly flashy from a skill or athleticism standpoint, but he is a great scorer who can create for himself or spot up on the wings. Because of his frame and some of the Yellow Jackets personnel, AJ will often guard the other team’s big man and he held his own there in the matchup I saw this weekend.

Like Washington, Lance’s performance improved as the game went on when I watched him this weekend. The Copperheads were in a tighter contest with Westside, so it was crucial for Barnes to turn it on late. Barnes put up 14 Points, 2 Assists, and 2 Steals on 5-8 FG in the last 10 minutes of the game. He is a true all-around Point Guard, capable of running an offense on his own with playmaking for himself and others. In this stretch, he balanced just that, as well as forcing some turnovers to help get his team some momentum in the game. When it comes to scoring, Lance is very strong around the rim, from the mid-range, and is a good perimeter shooter.
Wiersma is a player I have seen a couple of times so far this month, but he was business as usual in North Augusta this weekend. He also had a massive second half in the first window of games Friday, finishing with a dominant 26-Point and 12-Rebound double-double in a win over Carolina Forest. Two specific things stood out to me from Lucas’ performance: his work rate on the offensive glass and his ability to force turnovers. He was all over the boards on both ends but the offensive side was crucial because he almost always finished once he grabbed a second opportunity. Wiersma also had 3 steals to go with his double-double and he was used at the top of an effective press where his length caused trouble for opposing ball handlers.

It is fully a coincidence that all of the players I have in this Upper State 2026 list so far were terrific in the second half of the game I watched, but Baylor continues this trend. I watched Abbeville take on North at North Augusta High School on Saturday Morning and Jayden’s performance was one of my favorites of the weekend. He is a real talent who has a polished all-around game and impacts winning in many ways. Baylor has a big frame, can handle the rock, finishes through contact, can create for himself, and stays engaged on the defensive end. He went for 18 Points, 10 Rebounds, 7 Assists, and 4 Steals flirting with a triple-double in an extremely impressive performance.

AJ Jeter AJ Jeter 6'7" | SF Newberry | 2026 State SC has had some physical growth over the last year. He is now closer to 6’7″ and had a solid performance playing in the post for Newberry in a matchup with Crestwood. He had some good moments on the offensive end scoring with his back to the basket but is also comfortable shooting from 15 feet. On the defensive end, his strong frame was useful to help bang with an opposing big man, keeping him uncomfortable. Jeter also had two blocks, showing he can make up ground in rotation and protect the rim. AJ was switched onto guards a couple of times and moved his feet well on the perimeter in that situation. He finished with 13 Points and 6 Rebounds in the game.
