After being more of a supporting cast member these past two seasons at Southridge, [player_tooltip player_id='1379047' first='Keenan' last='Reckamp'] knows it will be his turn next year. So the all-around 6-foot-3 guard is using this off-season to better prepare himself for a leading role and also capture the attention of college coaches. He's been playing so far this spring/summer with plenty of fervor, coming off a 2023-24 season that was historic for the Skyhawks in so many ways, even if they fell short of winning a 6A title.

"We had a really good record and we had a really good team, so I thought we played pretty well, just couldn't get it done," Reckamp said. "But I thought I had a pretty good junior year to be honest. Like, I thought I had an okay sophomore year shooting so I was trying to work on that as much as I can and it worked."

It certainly worked to a big level for Reckamp as the lefty ended up leading all of 6A in three-point shooting percentage at a sizzling 47 percent clip. He remained one of 6A's top free throw shooters as well (89 percent). But there's no question Reckamp wants to continue developing his game beyond spot-up shooting and has been focusing on doing that this past spring with [program_tooltip program_id='2248856' first='Players' last='Only'] on the AAU scene and this month back with his high school teammates.

"I just want to keep improving my game in general and then just kind of get noticed, too, like everybody on our team," Reckamp said. "Because we're all really good and I think just playing in the out-of-town tournaments with coaches watching will help us get noticed. That's the ultimate goal."

As far as recruitment goes, it's still a bit early for Reckamp but he's definitely got some goals - and is keeping things wide open. "I haven't gotten anything yet, but my goal is to play college basketball anywhere," Reckamp said. "On scholarship, that would be a dream."

Reckamp has played well with Southridge this month and in July he'll get back to playing with [program_tooltip program_id='2248856' first='Players' last='Only'] and has high expectations. "We can be really good," Reckamp said. "I think we can be top in the state of Oregon and compete with other teams out of state at the top of their states, too because I think we have what it takes."

And from there, he'll prep for his senior season - one where he'll take the reins from graduated seniors Kaden Groenig and Carter Fortune and with teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1496193' first='Alonzo' last='Hoff'], assume a leadership role both on and off the court. There's still lots of time before the 2024-25 season starts but Reckamp knows he and his fellow Skyhawks will be prepared.

"We know how good we are and we know that (head coach Phil) Vesel will keep us ready too," Reckamp said. "So, it's definitely going to be a little bit of a change, but we're ready for it and everybody's ready to step up."
