NHR State Tournament Saturday Recap (Part 2)

Action continued at the NHR State Tournament Saturday afternoon at Shakopee High School. The afternoon slate of games saw players performing well on all ten courts across both the 12u and 13u divisions. With griND 2029 matching up against DCU 13U, 4TheLoveOf TheGame 2030-1 taking on [program_tooltip program_id='2075702' first='MN' last='Lightning'] 2030 Sorenson and [program_tooltip program_id='2075310' first='Northstar' last='Titans'] 2029 Depoint facing off with [program_tooltip program_id='2076003' first='West' last='Central United'] 2029-1. Here are the players that stood out from the rest in these matchups.    Vance was DCU standout performer all weekend a solid option to get the ball to down low and score. Vance has the size to drive his way to the basket, he's not afraid to fight through contact to get there taking on defenders and drawing fouls in the process, knocking down his shots at the free throw line for easy points.     Gardner showed off his versatility Saturday afternoon against the Lightning, first by using his smooth shot to knock down a pair from beyond the arc. Then taking a stretch pass on the inbound down the court and driving the lane for an easy layup. Gardner possesses an ability to distribute the ball as well delivering clean and accurate passes right where they need to be. His footwork allows him to put a variety of moves on defenders to create space and get to the rim.     Armstrong's defense was key to 4TheLove's success on Saturday afternoon, using his size to guard the paint and swat away opponents shots as well as being able to jump up and come down with rebounds as well. Along with his rebounding and defensive abilities Armstrong is an accurate passer grabbing a defensive board and delivering an accurate one hop pass the length of the court multiple times.     Christianson's height and length are his most immediately noticeable attributes defending the paint and the rim for the Titans on Saturday afternoon with multiple shot blocks to show for his efforts. But Christiansen really makes an impact on the offensive side of the ball as well, with a nice mid-range jump shot and a keen ability to kick the ball out when swarmed by defenders down low. When driving the lane his size allows him to draw his fair share of fouls as well.     Wiechmann provides size down low for West Central as a key defender inside making sure that no buckets come easy for United's opponents. On the offensive side of the ball Wiechmann can force his way into the paint for an easy layup as well drawing fouls on the process, but he has a good enough shot that you can rely on him for a nice mid range jumper or even a three point attempt on occasion.
