Indiana US Amateur Basketball Summer Classic: Guards

The position of point guard and shooting guard are very prominent to every basketball team. The point guard is known as the floor leader, facilitator or coach on the floor. Shooting guards are known as scorers of the basketball. Both positions were played at a high level by these players over the weekend.    Gavan showcased his ability of being a legit scorer for his Midwest Flex squad. He is a very aggressive player on offense who makes scoring look easy. Excellent long range bomber who nail multiple threes in the game against Deaf Indy. Really good ball handler who drove the ball by defenders for easy scores in the paint. When the opportunity presented itself, he was able to score in transition by running the floor and attacking the basket. Good all around shooter who also knocked down mid range shots and free throws. A decent defender who had the ability to stay with opposing players. Gavan is a really good player who can score anywhere on the floor. It's going to be interesting to see how his skills improve as his body continues to grow.     Micheal is an excellent ball handler who displayed all the necessary fundamentals needed to be a great floor leader. He is capable of making pin-point passes, often leading to easy scores for teammates. Over the weekend he lead his team in assists with good in game play-making. Micheal effectively lead fast breaking opportunities when the situation presented itself. A really good three point shooter who made other teams pay for leaving him open. Excellent ball handler who has the skills to effectively run the offense and make positive plays for his team. On defense he plays a ball-hawking style that forced many turnovers from the opposition.man to man defense. I believe he will easily adapt to high school basketball next season.     Kamarion is an offensive scorer who can drive around defenders, attack the basket and knock down mid range shots. A excellent passer who found open teammates, on multiple occasions versus Southside Strategy over the weekend. He is a really good rebounding guard who didn't mind attacking the glass against larger players. Kamarion is a high energy player who runs the floor and scores on fast break opportunities. Good on ball defender who forced multiple turnovers by playing tough, physical defense. This young man has the heart and determination to succeed at the high school level next season.     Braiden is an excellent jump-shooter! He shoots the basketball with great form and ball rotation. Most of the baskets he scored were via the jump-shot. Has knowledge of how to move around within the offense. He can run around screens and stay in constant movement, which often lead to open looks on the wing or at the top of the key. He showed the capability of shooting three point shots fluidly and with confidence. He also has a good handle with the ball, which he used to blow by defenders and attack the basket. Decent on the ball defender but an even better team defender. With Braiden's shooting ability.. succeeding at the next level shouldn't be an issue.     A tough shooting guard who showed an ability to score by attacking the basket. In a game over the weekend he attacked the basket with a nasty left handed layup while being contested by a defender. It had to be the move of the tournament! Good ball handling skills to create for himself or teammates. Decent passer who setup his squad with accurate passes, leading to easy scores. Juel displayed all the characteristics of a solid defensive player who applied ball-pressure, forced turnovers and played the passing lanes for key steals. With his skills... transitioning to high school basketball won't be a problem for Juel. I look forward to seeing his progression in the near future.     Jaelen is a heady point guard who is looks to get teammates involved on the offensive side of the ball. He is the prototypical floor general who lead his team in every facet of the game as it pertains to making the offense go. He lead the team in assists and ran the Red Storm offense like a coach on the floor. When the opportunity presented itself he had no problem getting to the basket. Jaelen has the lateral quickness to be a great defender. He stayed close to opposing guards, while not giving up any air space. This young man is very knowledgeable of where he needs to be and how he must attack on the basketball court. Defensively, he knows how to crowd opposing guards and make it tough on them being effective.
