After covering the Ferris St elite camp last weekend. I decided to take a walk down memory lane for the next stop. Heading back to my alma mater for Grand Valley St's first prospect camp of the spring. Following are five players that caught my eye

[player_tooltip player_id='1438250' first='Robert' last='Smith'] 5-10 2025 North Farmington Playing for a high profile regular season team who appeared in a state final. Smith is a known commodity as a player. Not very big but loaded with point guard intangibles and a winning attitude. Makes up for the lack of vertical size with a devastating floater. Showed it often on Tuesday evening. Is strong and plays with a low center of gravity. Isn't going to get knocked off his spot on penetration. Seemed to be playing through hand injury. With or without the injury. There is no questioning his toughness. North Farmington loses a lot of firepower from last years stellar team. Smith could lining up for a big statistical jump with more opportunity.

[player_tooltip player_id='1457721' first='Brody' last='Schimpa'] 6-3 2025 Edwardsburg (pictured) A little under radar. As he plays at a small school on the Indiana/Michigan border. Also plays with AAU squad largely made up of Hoosiers. Consequently showcases like this are a big stage for him. Fortunately he plays well in these settings. I saw him excel at a Bank Hoops event last fall. More of the same Tuesday night. One of his main attributes just can't be taught. Plays very hard with super high motor. Is seemingly in every play and does not back down from anything. If you are looking for a concrete measurable skill. Is a next level shooter. Shoots it well both from beyond the arc and in the mid range. Has trigger quick release with very little wasted motion. Has good size with a sturdy athletic frame.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218051' first='Vincent' last='Salmon'] 6-9 2025 Brighton Carried his strong play down highway 131. As he was one of the top performers at Ferris St last weekend as well. Unlike the Ferris field. Was the biggest player in camp by a rather healthy margin. More importantly he played like it. Punished defenders all night on the block. Relished the contact and seemed to feed off it. Has showed a soft touch around the basket previously. That being said, didn't need it Tuesday night. Continued to show increased athleticism and explosion going right at the basket. Finishing above the rim with ease. Was also an excellent passer out of the post as defenses began to double during scrimmages. A few of the kick outs were absolute high velocity bullets that were on point. After a nice spring with [program_tooltip program_id='2076445' first='The' last='Process'] on the Puma circuit. Salmon is continuing to break out.

[player_tooltip player_id='1438857' first='Gabe' last='Njenga'] 6-7 2025 Big Rapids No athletic testing at this particular camp. If there was, I feel pretty safe in assuming Njenga would have been near the top of the chart. Especially as a leaper. Lived above the rim all night. During drill portion was matched up with Salmon (see above) Competed hard despite a decided weight disadvantage. The light seemed to come on during scrimmages. Handled the ball with a confidence. I had not seen from him before. Once in the lane showed the developing diversity in his game. Could have easily tried to finish everything above the rim. Didn't fall into that trap. Showed a soft floater that is usually reserved for small guards. Don't get me wrong. Also had a few highlight reel dunks as well. Topped it off by comfortably hitting a three. Coming off a nice spring with Indiana Game on the Under Armour circuit. Could be lining up for a breakout senior year.

Treyvon Miller 6-7 2026 St Paul's School (NH) The ex-Lansing Waverly forward is in the midst of some changes. Transferring out to a New England prep school and reclassifying. One thing that has not changed is his composed and mature skill set. Seemed to be more comfortable operating in the post than I remember from previous viewings. Efficiently and easily established deep post position. Impressive as he doesn't have the widest or bulkiest frame. Did it with largely intelligence and well school footwork. Finished often with soft hook shot. Showed the versatility with a few threes as well. Did it without the need of a gather dribble. Like Njenga, (see above) finished off the package with more than one dunk out in transition.
