One of the youngest players in Ohio’s 2025 class, it’s easy to see a ton of upside with Holley. From a physicality standpoint, Holley has an excellent frame which should continue to improve as he continues to mature. The last time I saw Holley play he also rebounded the basketball with a ton of aggression. I think scholarship programs would be smart to maybe consider a redshirt with Holley as he’s still got a ways to go but has the time to develop with continued reps. This is one of the bigger sleeper prospects across northeast Ohio and I expect Holley to explode onto the scene this summer.
Another player who stood out at the Bill Hensley Run N Slam, Calo had some monster scoring games. Good to see Calo back on the court healthy, he was injured for almost the entire Junior season at Mentor, only playing in the playoffs. Now that he’s back 100% on the court, I’m now seeing his talent and how he impacts the game. With good size from the guard position, Calo can play on or off the ball. Able to create shots for himself off the dribble, Calo has a lot of scoring talent. Will be interesting to see which college programs make Calo a priority now that he’s been back playing for a few months.

A transfer from Wheeling Park in West Virginia across the Ohio river to Steubenville. Davis will instantly become one of the elite shooters in Ohio. With a strong frame that translates to the gridiron as Davis is a two-sport star, he’ll have a role at the college level due to his strength and shooting ability. Curious to see if Steubenville can make a run in the postseason with Davis entering the mix along with Santonio Haney, who is back after a freshman season where he averaged almost 20 PPG.
A conference POY and first team All Ohio Selection in Division III who averaged 23 PPG as a Junior, Thompson was one of the prospects highest on my priority list to see this summer. Now running with Ohio Buckets -Black, Thompson is able to show his versatility as a scorer surrounded by other future college level talents. I like the frame Thompson has, allowing him to play inside/outside depending on who is guarding him. Glad I finally got a chance to see Thompson in person and add him to our rankings, a small college priority recruit for schools in the region, Thompson took an early visit from Bluffton who he holds an offer from.

Got to see Russia down at the state final four where they fell short against Richmond Heights for a second consecutive season. Really enjoyed watching their kids compete and walked away really impressed with the physicality their kids had considering the size of their school. York immediately stands out due to his size and shooting ability on the wing. I’ll be curious if York takes a big leap from his 10 PPG average he had as a junior after the Raiders graduate a couple key pieces from their team. When you factor in York’s size, shooting ability and 4.0 GPA, he should have no trouble flying up recruiting boards for small college programs.
