Check out a few of the programs we’re most interested in checking out this weekend for #PhenomHoops’ live period event.
NC Spartans Neisler
Coach Neisler has put together an underrated group of guys with his group, and the leader of the group is Owen Calvert Owen Calvert 6'1" | CG Calvary Day School | 2026 State NC , a skilled scorer who produces 24/7 and makes all the big shots you could ask for. Ben Houpt Ben Houpt 6'4" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2026 State NC is another flamethrower who can get hot in a hurry from deep, but also has the patience and skill to break a guy down off the dribble and get into the painted area to score. Andre Gyabaah Andre Gyabaah 6'6" | PF Lexington Senior | 2026 State NC is a guy who brings unique athletic talent with his blend of length and vertical pop, inserting himself in games as a two way presence. Valliance Luketa Valliance Luketa 6'2" | PG Lexington Senior | 2026 State NC and Braxton Davis Braxton Davis 6'2" | CG East Surry | 2026 State NC are two tough, scrappy guards who can bring impact to both sides of the floor depending on what their team needs as well. I’ll be excited for them to get some reps against top tier competition this weekend.
Team Griggs
Team Griggs will have some intriguing Charlotte-area talent as they look to make a splash at live period, led by versatile scoring guard/wing Jim Gatehouse Jim Gatehouse 6'3" | CG South Mecklenburg | 2026 State NC . I continue to be impressed with his shot making ability and downhill driving skills, and he’ll probably be a leading piece all weekend long. Pierce Page Pierce Page 6'1" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2026 State NC is another shooter who could be important for South Mecklenburg HS success next season, and then Connor Yett will man the interior as a physical, burly post who finishes well around the rim and rebounds at a high rate. I think some other names will pop this weekend too, but this group should be a surprise one to make a splash in front of coaches and evaluators this weekend.
NC Spartans Liles
Another Spartans group that should be on alert this weekend is Herb Liles’ group, as they’ve put together a competitive team that should win a few games and have some impressive talent on display. Savion Brooks Savion Brooks 6'0" | CG Southwest Guilford | 2026 State NC has been the leader of this group so far this year when I’ve watched, putting together consistently tough displays and working on getting paint touches and finishes around the rim. Henry Trent is a new name that has had a good start to the grassroots season, playing in the backcourt, scoring the ball, and playing under control and with pace. Guys like Sam Ball, Arop Chom, Brady Clark Brady Clark 5'11" | PG South Stokes | 2026 NC , and Caden Ryker Caden Ryker 6'0" | PG The North Carolina Leadership Academy | 2026 State NC will also bring various ways that they improve their groups output, whether its through their scoring, table setting, or defensive games. Look for these guys to stay hot and make noise this weekend.
