Max was making plays all over the floor on Friday. He is so skilled with the ball in his hands and was effective when scoring from inside and outside. He is a great pull-up jump shooter, being able to shoot off balance or with a hand in his face. He also impressed when getting downhill, absorbing contact for finishes through traffic. The sophomore guard also has good vision, finding open teammates with kick out passes. Iversen rose up for a high flying transition block as well, showing off his athleticism.
Highlights
Mikey had a breakout performance on Friday night, taking over in a win. He started out hot with his perimeter shooting and was a threat from beyond the arc all game. He was also effective when getting out in transition, being able to convert on full speed finishes at the basket, sometimes battling through contact. He also threw down a two-handed dunk in the open floor. Wildes can create open looks for himself or teammates with his ball handling and decision making.
Highlights
Cedric is one of the best scorers in Minnesota right now and he was getting to it on Friday night. He connected with four first half triples, with most of which coming from well beyond the three-point line. He is very twitchy and unpredictable with the ball in his hands, getting defenders to bite on pump fakes often. He is crafty when converting around the rim, having a deep bag of finishes he can go to to avoid his shot from being blocked. Tomes can also conduct an offense with his ball handling and passing vision.
Ben really impressed me on Friday night, showing off a good balance of size and skill. He was able to hold down the paint with his 6’9” frame, being able to work in the post on both ends of the floor. He was a force on the boards, coming away with numerous contested rebounds and he could protect the rim at a high level. The junior forward could also stretch the floor, knocking down triples off the catch.
Maddox stands at 6’7” and has a versatile skill set for his size. He made his presence felt in the paint on both sides of the ball, being able to alter opponents shots and fight through contact on offense. He is a good rebounder, being able to position himself well when the ball comes off the rim. Cornette also connected with several triples in the second half, which impressed me the most. He was a big time threat off the ball for teammates to find down the stretch in a tight win.
Mason stepped up on Friday night as his team had a couple key players out, providing some consistent scoring. He does the majority of his shot making from the perimeter, being a go-to option for teammates when making kick out passes. He can also create a look for himself, having the ability to connect with tough shots off the dribble in the mid-range. Witt and D1 Minnesota cruised to a 20+ point win and look to be right on track for a 4-0 record on the weekend.
Gavin turned in a very solid performance on Friday night, making a ton of impactful plays for his team. He could serve as the main ball handler when he was on the floor, being able to run an offense and create looks for teammates or score himself. He could convert from all three levels and impressed me most with his ability to pull up in the mid-range. He could stop on a dime to get a shot off and could shoot off balance or with a contest from the defense. Grondin also found success getting downhill for contested layups.
