Gavin was able to have himself another exceptional game. Shot well from the floor and was able to attack the basket well. This young man is a top candidate for division 1-3 Player of the Year as well as Mr. UP Basketball. Put up 26 last night, and shot 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Kingsford will play the winner of the Gladstone/Escanaba game next week in a district semi-final game and is a heavy favorite for District 33 and Regional 10 in D2

Lake Superior State University signee. Stepping into an LSSU program that is on fire right now. Last year a sweet 16 team and this year they have been in the national top 10 rankings as of late. Gavin will shore them up in the guard position next year as some key players will be graduating. Gavin surged to the #50 spot in the combo guard position and it’s likely he could be much higher. He’s quick and relentless on defense. A pure shooter with a wide range. Glad to see his hard work paying off, and it will be exciting to watch him continue his basketball career at the next level.

‘s game. Gavin made a smooth color transition from high school to college, as he has signed on to play at the next level with the LSSU Lakers…a team that also boasts a blue and gold similar to the Flivvers. Gavin is one of the better ball handlers I have seen in high school in quite a few years, and his ability to attack the basket from the left OR the right is second to none. His ability to score from anywhere on the court in any facet of the game sets Grondin apart from his peers. His lightning quickness will get him to the hoop before his defender even knows what happened.
He and his fellow Flivvers lost a nail-biter to Flint Powers Catholic, but not before Gavin had a MONSTER of a night in the scoring column, as you can see from the link below. Next year Kingsford reloads with A LOT of talent and I would say are a heavy favorite for a trip to the Breslin out of QF5 next year.

is very comfortable in the Coop (Bud Cooper Gym-LSSU home court) and should soon look great in Laker Blue and Gold. This young man is extremely quick, with a lightning-fast release, and shoots the ball very well. He had an excellent few days getting to the hoop and scoring. He is quick on defense and sheds a screen about the best among his peers. His Kingsford Flivvers team should make a deep tournament run next spring and we look forward to covering that. 2024/2025 UP Mr. Basketball will likely be a close race between him and Kangas.

Gavin turned in a very solid performance on Friday night, making a ton of impactful plays for his team. He could serve as the main ball handler when he was on the floor, being able to run an offense and create looks for teammates or score himself. He could convert from all three levels and impressed me most with his ability to pull up in the mid-range. He could stop on a dime to get a shot off and could shoot off balance or with a contest from the defense. Grondin also found success getting downhill for contested layups.

Gavin was one of the most productive players I saw all weekend. He just couldn’t be contained in the open floor, as his speed and handle allowed him to weave in and out of defenders to get to the rim. Impressive body control to finish in traffic while attacking the rim at full speed. Even when attacking at that speed he was able to avoid picking up charge calls, and if a clear path to the rim wasn’t available, he showed the vision to kick it out to a shooter. Good defensive instincts to jump passes and get out in transition. Helped lead his Wisconsin Blizzard team to a 4-0 record.

Gavin was all over the place making plays on Saturday. He’s so fast with the ball in his hands, and was always looking to push the tempo for his Wisconsin Blizzard team. Whether he was going coast-to-coast in transition or beating his man off the dribble, Gavin was consistently finding ways to get to the rim and finish. Able to hang in the air and adjust his body to finish in traffic or while taking a hit in the air. Showcased good vision to hit an open teammate if the defense collapsed on him as well. Gavin’s effort and intensity on both ends of the floor really stood out throughout the day.
