Unsurprisingly, this starting five is filled with PVI players. The first one is Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5’10” | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA at PG. Ben is the engine of this PVI team, and throughout his High school career, he’s been one of my favorite players to watch. Ben’s defense and passing are huge to what PVI does. He’s one of the quickest players in the state, and he’s improved as a jump shooter.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6’6″ | PG Unknown | 2024 State #22 Nation VA is one of the best players in the country and was a McDonald’s all-American. Bryson was great for O’Connell this year, and even though they had a lot of injuries, they were still nationally ranked for a while. Bryson has excellent size for a guard and has a refined offensive game. He can score from anywhere and is a good passer. Bryson’s offensive game will translate well wherever he takes his talents next. He was first team in the WCAC and a first team all-met selection.
Highlights
Darren Harris Darren Harris 6’6″ | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia this year and put on big performances in big games. The Duke commit was outstanding in the WCAC tourney and was the player of the year in the conference. Darren has one of the quickest releases I’ve seen, and he’s a next-level shooter. His game will translate well at Duke, given his ability to play off the ball and be a solid team defender.
Another O’Connell player I have here is AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6’6″ | SF Bishop O’Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA . Because of his length and athleticism, AJ is one of the best defenders in the state. The Florida State commit has gotten better as a shooter, which has made him more challenging to stop offensively. AJ is a guy to watch at the next level as someone who will improve big time, similar to what he did his senior year.
Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6’7″ | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA is one of my favorite defensive players in the state. He’s so versatile, and he can truly guard 1-5. Isaiah is a great offensive rebounder and an excellent athlete. The Uconn commit stepped up to play more of the 5 with Pat Ngongba out, and he did well. He was second team in the WCAC and is another player whose game will translate well at the next level.
