The teams in the spacious Champion Center all set out to attain bragging rights for the year. Each game had highlight worthy plays, and players looking to prove their team was worthy of a Championship Title. Although there can only be one champion, there was no shortage of intensity throughout the entire weekend in each division. Below, I highlighted the “Day 1 Standouts” that I was able to watch at the “Madness in the Midwest”.
Jackson Montgomery | WI Playmakers
Jackson was the hot hand for WI Playmakers on day 1. He spaced the floor out in a major way which led to easier opportunities for his teammates. He has a really quick jump shot with little to no wasted movement.
Sam Olsen | CBA North
Olsen proved to be a crafty scorer for CBA North. His smooth jumper spaced the floor on day 1. His footwork and patience in the paint was on full display. He exploited height mismatches on the perimeter as well as in the paint.
Jackson Buelow | Slam City
Buelow used his wingspan well on both ends of the floor. He altered shots and passes quite a bit and proved to have solid foot speed guarding on and off the ball. Buelow was able to hit some shots over the top of defenders as well.
Josh Carl Josh Carl 6'0" Kaukauna high school | 2027 WI | All Wisconsin
Carl was a reliable source of scoring on day 1. His ability to score off of the catch provided some momentous plays leading to their first win in pool play. He was very impressive with making floaters around the basket and knocking down corner threes.
Jatavian Robinson | Slam City
Robinson provided grit and hustle for Slam City. He was very sound off of the ball, making timely cuts and screens to impact plays. His motor and will was apparent on day 1. Keep an eye out for him throughout the rest of the weekend.
