Several teams were looking to get on the radar or continue momentum as players clashed to seek the title of “Houston Heatwave” champion. Check out what players were significant for their teams on Saturday!
Noah Pearce
Noah Pearce
Noah was by far one of the best shooters that I was able to watch at the tourney yesterday. He always knew where he was supposed to be on the court and knocked down several long range shots, even with a contested hand in his face. He patiently creates space from his matchup and was also aggressive driving to the rim this game, drawing several fouls and cashing out at the foul stripe. I will be watching Noah closely to see if he continues his hot shooting from beyond the arc as the grassroots season continues.
Jeremy Roman
Jeremy Roman
Jeremy was a do it all weapon for his team this game as he could not be stopped on the offensive end. He was the main rebounder for High Flyers, staying active on the boards all game as he grabbed several second chance opportunities at the basket and constantly converted the layups under the rim. He stays calm and poised in clutch situations as well, when his team needs a bucket he can go score the rock. Jeremy is quietly raising his stock as one of the best unsigned 2024 seniors left in the city while he continues to play a high brand of basketball.
Liam Fitzgerald
Liam Fitzgerald
Liam was the main big time hustle player in the triple overtime win for KOP over TMA UA Rise. Fitzgerald was all over the floor, directing traffic and doing the dirty work on the boards all game. He was also instrumental in creating opportunities for his teammates and getting key stops on defense. He was very vocal on both sides of the court and made his presence known in the post.
Christian Gibson Christian Gibson 6'5" | SG Katy Mayde Creek | 2026 State TX
Christian Gibson Christian Gibson 6'5" | SG Katy Mayde Creek | 2026 State TX
Christian was an explosive force of offense this game as he lit up the defense from beyond the arc, hitting at least 4 or 5 threes over the course of the contest. He also showed great ability to hit teammates in transition as he threw several fastbreak passes that his teammates easily converted into fastbreak points. The bottom line this game was that Gibson showed he is not just a scorer, his presence alone causes the defense to key in and creates opportunities for everyone else to impact the game in a major way. Christian will continue to make major strides for the 16u hoops as they look to keep their momentum going and continue winning big games.
Marcus was the motor for Hoops EYBL in their big time win over DEYO on Saturday afternoon. He was the point guard they needed as he kept the engine running and was in charge of setting the pace on offense. He had several plays where he blew past his defender to the basket and would finish over the contact, as well as some outstanding drive and dish plays where he would pass to a wide open teammate in the corner for an easy shot. This is my second time getting to watch Marcus and I have been impressed by his speed and agility on both ends as well as his fundamental aggressive defense. It is easy to tell that he is one of the leaders on this squad and will continue to be one of the most vocal on the court.
