The Gonzaga Prep forward is a big threat from 3PT and he continues to show it in the AAU season with Hooptown. He has a really easy stroke from deep, has shown he can knock down varying shots from the midrange too, and seems to have improved his handle a bit, making it easier from him to attack from different areas. He showed some nice touch on some runners in the paint and could be a kid who starts to evolve more as an all-around scorer this spring and summer.
The Seattle Select forward has been a rock inside for their 17u UA squad and even though he’s a bit undersized at 6-foot-6 at times, he has the strength and patience to play with bigger front court players. He does a great job playing controlled off two feet, waits for shot blockers to get off their feet and uses his body to create space inside for shots. He’s also a kid that can draw a lot of fouls, holding his ground and going up strong through contact. He shoots a high percentage at the stripe and even stepped out to knock down a 3 in a game last weekend.
One of the more promising prospects in his class, McGriff didn’t get a lot of opportunities to work with the ball in his hands the last game I saw of his for Idaho Premier but the wing was efficient with his shots. He sank 2-of-2 from 3PT, made a few strong finishes at the rim with high elevation, and knocked down his shots at the foul line. His impact in that game really came on the defensive end where he’s shown potential to be a lockdown defender on the ball, and someone who can cover a lot of ground from the help side to step up and make big blocks.
The Rogers forward is playing with Hooptown this AAU season and has looked strong inside, working the boards on both ends and fighting to finish in the paint through traffic. He’s also a guy who has a good enough handle to push the ball in space and get downhill at times from the perimeter. He’s a pretty smooth finisher when he can get moving to the hoop and provides some versatility at the forward spot.
Another promising forward prospect for Hooptown’s Black team, Goldsmith is a powerful player with some serious bounce. He has a secure handle, is strong in possession, and showed some good vision off the bounce last weekend to find kickouts and cutters. He’s another forward who can take the ball in transition and run a quick break, and overall has good instincts and reactions on the court.
