McGriff helped lead a balanced Emerald Ridge attack to their best finish in school history. In fact, last season, four of the seniors (including McGriff) and one junior were apart of the first group to ever take the Jags to the 4A state tournament. McGriff was a huge part of those back-to-back trips, and a fifth-place finish this year where he ended 10th in total points, 7th in total assists, and 5th in total rebounds.

The Emerald Ridge wing is a tough player to stop when he can catch in the midrange and in. He’s able to get the first step on his man pretty consistently, and after getting to the rim and drawing some fouls inside, he opened up some good midrange looks in the second half.

The Emerald Ridge wing is a superb athlete who has shown how dynamic he can be slashing to the rim, making quick dives off the ball, and attacking the offensive glass. When he can get a few jumpers to go, it really opens things up for his work to the rim, and when they send extra defenders his way to clog up lanes, he has the height to make some key passes and shift the defense.

McGriff recently received an offer to play at Arizona State, and a big part of his game is his D-I level athleticism. He plays with a good motor and is able to affect the game in a lot of ways, one of the biggest is his tenacity on the glass. He’s got the bounce, the strength, and the grit to be a truly impactful rebounder for the Jags. He’s a kid who gets up and down the floor, and can cover a lot of ground quickly on the defensive end to make plays. An underrated part of his game that’s developed is his recognition when defenses are keying on him and how he can attack gaps to draw in multiple defenders, then swing the ball to the right spots for his teammates to attack.

McGriff was really impressive at the pop-up, showcasing all the heart and skills to be a multi-faceted dawg. He didn’t care how he made his impact, he just went out and worked, affecting the game across the board. He fought on the glass, worked to contest/block shots, and was physically one of the most impressive kids at the event. He slashed with quickness and strength, had power finishes, finesse finishes, and showed he can hit shots from different levels. He communicated on defense, played all the way through possessions, and was just a very complete player who can play out of different areas and defend multiple positions.

One of the more promising prospects in his class, McGriff didn’t get a lot of opportunities to work with the ball in his hands the last game I saw of his for Idaho Premier but the wing was efficient with his shots. He sank 2-of-2 from 3PT, made a few strong finishes at the rim with high elevation, and knocked down his shots at the foul line. His impact in that game really came on the defensive end where he’s shown potential to be a lockdown defender on the ball, and someone who can cover a lot of ground from the help side to step up and make big blocks.

Previous Rank: 15rnMcGriff is a huge part of what Emerald Ridge does and has really started to take off this season. He’s a big, athletic wing whose handle has progressed to allow him to score and attack from just about any spot on the floor and his athleticism is tough to match at the rim. He’s also a kid who can bury some threes, has shown he can work with his back to the basket, and he can rise to the challenge against top teams. He’s made some great highlight plays on the defensive end too and shown some high potential this year.

McGriff was especially impressive against Tahoma and had to deal with a lot of length from the host team. He was rebounding 3v1 at times and showed awesome fight on the boards to keep the rebound alive, tipping it up to himself or other teammates when he wasn’t just ripping down the initial board. Honestly, McGriff looked like the best prospect on the floor and his progression from last season was quite impressive. He made an impact on both ends, playing tough defense all over the floor, soaring for a couple of big blocks, scoring from inside and out, and doing a lot of shot creating off the dribble. He doesn’t need much room to accelerate and get a head full of steam to the hoop and is a high-caliber prospect to watch this season.
