Each player here showed consistent growth throughout the year as their games got better after every game. Here is who shined from the Freshmen class this season.
Lundy is a player who played with a lot of poise and determination this season, especially on the defensive end. Watching him pick up players full court from the inbound pass for a whole game you can see just how much he can affect the game on defense. Lundy’s hands are very quick and rarely get beat off the dribble. He’s excellent when intercepting passing lanes and created lots of fastbreak opportunities for his team. On offense, he looks to take defenders off the dribble to work the midrange game while also using his quickness to use his soft touch around the rim.
Lynch had an excellent season and looked more comfortable after every game. This led to some impressive performances from him including a 29-point and 12-rebound stat line against Long Branch. He’s a great shooter from deep and has a quick release on catch-and-shoot shots. Lynch can play multiple positions at 6’3″ and look to take advantage of mismatches in the post. His defense was also great this year as he came away with many deflections in the passing lanes showing off his two-way ability.

Gomez was electric this season putting up some big numbers in his first year. The point guard took full control of the offense with his incredible playmaking. Seeing him find different creative ways to get his teammates open is what makes him a tough guard because he can already score at a high level. His speed and quickness with the ball in his hands is how he creates extra separation on his shot from behind the arc. Gomez can stop on a dime and hit the pull-up shot in the midrange area. On defense, he came away with 43 steals in 26 games. Gomez is a pest on defense and gets after players forcing them to go to their off-hand to dribble into traps.

Gonzalez had a terrific all-around season this year dominating in all aspects of the game. He averaged 14.8 ppg this season scoring all over the court. His shooting ability is what makes it difficult to guard as all it takes is one shot to go down from deep to get him going. His range extends far behind the three-point line but can also take defenders off the dribble and get to the rim with ease if they press too much on him. Witnessing his two-way ability this year Gonzalez showed how much he can affect the game on the defensive end with his quick lateral ability and reactions to get multiple steals and deflections in a game.
Johnson was a sniper from downtown this season hitting 47 threes in the making. His ability to work off the ball finding ways to get open off of off-ball screens or just simply tiring out his defender is something that is how he can get so open on his shots. Seeing him take only a couple of steps past the half-court line and pulling up from deep is a challenge for any defense as most of the time defenders sag off from that range while Johnson takes advantage of it. Johnson has one of the better catch-and-shoot games in his class as he looks to get even better next season.
