Here’s a look at part two of the top guards in the class, ranking the top five point and combo guards in the junior class.
5) Aiden Argabright Aiden Argabright 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2025 State #220 Nation VA | 6’0” PG | John Marshall (#10 Overall)
Argabright transferred to JM this year from St. Stephen’s and playing a national schedule he showed he is one of the top guards who impacts winning in a big time way. He can play on or off the ball equally well, as he’s a dead eye shooter from deep and shifty off the bounce. He touches the paint and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands, he can create space and make tough shots from all three levels and he finds contact and gets to the line often.
4) Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’4” PG | Catholic (#8 Overall)
Walker is a player I fully expect to blow up this summer, as he has great tools as a big point guard that will impress coaches when they get to see him more. He has long arms and is lightning quick allowing him to get deflections and deliver tough passes over smaller defenders. He’s shifty off the bounce and changes speeds well to get in the lane, he has terrific feel and sees the floor well and he can score the ball efficiently in a lot of different ways off the bounce.
3) Donovan Richardson Donovan Richardson 6'6" | PG Steward | 2025 State #166 Nation VA | 6’6” CG | Steward School (#7 Overall)
Richardson is another big guard who does a lot of things on both ends of the floor that impact winning, and he has a lot of upside moving forward. At 6’6” he’s a big and strong guard who can work off the bounce to get in the paint where he has great footwork and can finish with both hands. He plays with good pace and sees the game a play ahead allowing him to deliver tough passes, he can score it in the midrange and knock down open shots from deep and he is a good rebounder and versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.
2) Kaden Magwood Kaden Magwood 6'3" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2025 State #139 Nation VA | 6’3” PG | Oak Hill Academy (#4 Overall)
Magwood has perhaps been the biggest breakout player on this list, as he’s been putting up big numbers on the EYSL and has emerged as one of the top guards in the country in his class. Even in a backcourt he shares with a Michigan commit, Magwood’s ability to both score it and make plays for others, coupled with his athleticism, has made him one of their go-to guys this year. He can score the ball from all three levels with ease, he has a great first step and good wiggle off the bounce, he can shoot it from well beyond the line and he is a very good finisher around the rim too.
1) Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’9” PG | St. Anne’s Belfield (#2 Overall)
Mallory should have real consideration for Gatorade Player of the Year in the state, as he’s been perhaps the most consistently productive player against a very good schedule on one of the top teams in the state. Despite his height, Mallory can compete with anyone, and his competitive drive is perhaps the most impressive thing about him despite the fact he’s arguably the most skilled guard in the country. He has in the gym range both off the catch and off the bounce, he changes speeds well and has good burst and he has a very high IQ as a playmaker who can see the floor and deliver every pass. He’s strong enough to finish in the lane and is a surprisingly good rebounder, as well as a very smart and tenacious defender as well.
