In what was maybe the biggest game of the year in the Chicagoland area the two teams who held the top two spots all season battling for a trip to Champaign this weekend. As expected it went to the wire in an exciting fashion. Homewood Flossmoor beat Curie 60-58. Here were the standouts from the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1352590' first='Gianni' last='Cobb'] - Homewood-Flossmoor 2024

The Columbia commit was electric in transition and very efficient from the field. Cobb led all scorers with 22 points as he only missed two shots all night. Gianni was perfect from three and the free-throw line. He was the steady force H-F needed to get the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1157209' first='Will' last='Gonzalez'] - Curie 2024

You would think Gonzalez was very comfortable at UIC with the way he shot the ball in the arena all season. Tonight was no different as he started well going 4 for 6 through the third quarter hitting shots from mid-range and behind the arc. I felt he didn't get any good looks in the fourth as the Condors went the other way on offense. He had a flow but just didn't get the touches he needed. He finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='1488791' first='Carson' last='Brownfield'] - Homewood Flossmoor

Carson is always a tough guard because he plays bully ball around the rim. It's rare to find many players who can guard him without being in foul trouble. Brownfield scored his points early in the first half before he took a role as a key defender in the second half. Carson had 8 points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1157229' first='Taevion' last='Collier'] - Curie 2024

Collier was another player who did most of his damage in the first half for Curie. Taevion is a space-eater big man who got quick points early in the first quarter. Scoring on three possessions straight to give the Condors an early lead. In the second quarter, they went to him again but after that, he didn't touch the ball in the paint anymore as both teams went to smaller lineups. Collier had 8 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1774274' first='Jayden' last='Tyler'] - Homewood-Flossmoor 2025

Jayden came up big for the Vikings as he along with Cobb had a very efficient game. Tyler had his way at the rim as the game pace picked up. He made athletic plays and most times through contact. Jayden was perfect from three and only missed one from the charity stripe. His consistency was big as he was the second leading scorer with 18 points for H-F.

[player_tooltip player_id='1157211' first='Carlos' last='Harris']- Curie 2024

Harris unfortunately didn't have the best game on his future home court. He was able to get to his spot early in the game and made two really good touch shots from the lane. But would have issues later on and Homewood-Flossmoor would pack the paint making it difficult for him to see going to the rim. Harris had 6 points and 5 assists before fouling out.

[player_tooltip player_id='1385293' first='Bryce' last='Heard'] - Homewood-Flossmoor 2025

Bryce had some big moments in the run to help H-F take the lead. Heard was good in the lane hitting his patent pull-up. His shot put the Vikings up 4. Bryce was more effective on defense causing turnovers using his length. He fouled out and finished with 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2318209' first='Mason' last='Minor'] - Curie 2024

Mason was the do-it-all-all-player for Curie. He played with a lot of energy and killed it on the offensive glass where he scored most of his points on putbacks. Mason was hard to keep off the glass and finished well even when taking a hit. Minor was the leading scorer for Curie with 14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1157351' first='Christian' last='Brockett']- Curie 2024

Brockett has been known to be one of the better on-ball defenders in the city. Tonight he was used as a scoring option as Curie couldn't get much from its star player. Christian had several drives from the corner and the wing that saw him get to the rim untouched. In other moments Brockett would have the ball swung to him and he knocked down two big corners three-pointers. He would finish the game with 12 points in his last game for Curie.
