Malachi Hooks
Malachi Hooks
Hooks is a player who has performed well and has been consistent for the last two years, led his team to the DC City title last year as a 7th grader. So, he will be a young player to see how he continues to develop, adjust to the next level, and see what kind of impact he can bring early on. Nothing too flashy for this powerful burly forward, but Malachi knows how to bring a consistent presence inside the paint, remain active and engaged, he competes on the boards, and finishes well through contact as well as battling with opponents, has been on the radar of all the private schools in the DMV area for the last two years.
Donzell Byrd
Donzell Byrd
Byrd is one that I continue to find intrigue with and is a young point guard that I would keep my eyes on. He is a strong creator and crafty with his handles, as he is a strong creator and finisher. Byrd reads and sees the floor, can get paint touches, and is a stronger guard than many in his ability to finish through contact and embrace contact, to go along with his strong handles.
Der’Heim Brown
Der’Heim Brown
Brown had a good showing at the event throughout, consistently showcasing his ability to create, find ways to score, knock down shots from multiple levels, and make good plays off the bounce. He was strong in getting downhill and finishing around defenders, really flourishing around the basket. Looking forward to seeing where Brown continues his high school career going forward.
Aric Harris
Aric Harris
Harris continues to flourish and shows why he is looked at as one of the top point guards in the city. He is simply so quick on the court, blowing by defenders, attacking out in transition, and getting by defenders with ease at times. He also brings a strong presence on both ends as well. Harris continues to show he can score in a variety of ways and use his advantage in his quickness to his advantage.
Donte Bond
Donte Bond
Of all the young prospects in the game Donte Bond is a long & mobile athlete that might have the most upside of anybody that played in the game. Showed a touch at the rim plus he flashed floor spacing potential. A high-upside prospect, Bond is a prospect that has the potential of getting stronger and mature. And grow another 3 to 4 inches it could get interesting if he gets with the right program that is big on development.
Khyarr Phillips
Khyarr Phillips
Khyarr was a player that caught my eye on several occasions at the DCIAA All Star Game. He is a high IQ skilled wing guard that can knock down shots from all 3 levels. His quick trigger shot can be tough to stop, but it allows him to create a bunch of shots for himself within the flow of the game. But he can also be an effective floor general on the court, breaking down defenders and dictating the offense, to go along with his polished scoring ability.
Amos Davis
Amos Davis
Amos consistently stands out as an incredibly important glue-guy. He’s tough, scrappy, and plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor. Amos is a capable finisher and shooting threat, but consistently showcases the ability to impact the game without needing to score. While it doesn’t show up in the stat sheet, his hustle, unselfishness, and willingness to do the little things makes him a major x-factor. He defends, rebounds, and looks to make the right play whenever possible. In a time where everyone wants to score or make highlight-reel plays, every team needs a player like Amos on your team.
