It featured some of the top 12, 13, and 14U teams from around the area, including teams from Texas and Kansas. This article is going over the top shooters from the 12U and 13U divisions. With that being said, lets dive in and see who lit it up.
Jayden Holmes
Jayden Holmes
Jayden Holmes showed a little bit of versatility with his ability to score. He knocked down a couple of threes in a game, showed the ability to score in transition multiple times, and even grabbed an offensive rebound that led to a putback. It was a solid scoring and shooting performance for him throughout the whole tournament.
Michael Teague Michael Teague Ted Polk | 2029 KS is a great all-around player, dominating in every area. He led his team to the championship game and was the best player out of everyone in 12U or 13U. He knocked down threes, both contested or when left open. If the defense would close out to hard, he would drive by and hit either a mid-range pull-up or finish at the rim, and there were times the defense collapsed and he found the open man. I do not have the exact numbers, but over the three games that I saw him play, he averaged around 25 points and seven steals. He is a great defender and times his steal attempt perfectly. He shoots efficiently and can do everything on the court, including rebounding. He is a serious player to keep an eye on moving forward.
Hank Haggard Hank Haggard Cheyenne Middle School | 2030 OK showcased his ability to shoot the ball, knocking down multiple threes both times I saw him play. He has a smooth jumper and does not rush it. He is not the tallest player, but he has a high enough I.Q to where he was able to get in position to get rebounds, like Larry Bird used to do. He would read where the ball was going off of the rim and beat the opponent there. He flashed the ability to drive and finish in the paint. He definitely proved that he is a shooter, but impacts the game in other areas.
Stoney Belz looked like a great 3 and D player whenever I saw him play. He knocked down a couple of three pointers in the game, including one that was off of a crossover. He flashed the ability to playmake as he threw a great half-court pass for an assist. On defense, he made a big impact by coming away with a block and three steals. One of the steals led to him finishing inside on the other side for two. He played good on-ball defense and grabbed a few rebounds. He had a great game on both ends of the court.
Isaiah Lucas Isaiah Lucas Carver Middle Schools | 2030 OK provided a biggest shooting boost to his team, who went 4-0 on the weekend. They went on to blow out every opponent, even in the championship game for 12U. He came in and knocked down three of his three point attempts. Despite being small in stature, he is big in heart. He had one play that he drove to the basket and made a reverse layup with the foul. On defense, he would play great on-ball and perimeter defense. He also had a couple of steals. It was impressive seeing the kind of impact that he made for his team.
